Towing with new truck mpg
I had my first towing experience with the new TV. It is a 2016 Silverado 2500HD Duramax
Towing was a pleasure and since I have to break it in I am limited to 50mph for the first 500 miles. I had to the TT to the dealer for some body repair from tree crew truck.
Towing was about 40 miles US 4 (2 lane rd with lots of speed limit changes) then 60 miles of I89 interstate. Set cruise control to 50mph. For 100 miles I ended up with 13 mpg per the trip odometer.
TT did not have the canned goods, other dry foods, refrigerator not full, no clothes, no bikes, but other items in like the Coleman roadtrip grill, chairs, 2 full 30gal propane tanks.
Not too bad.

So you still need to do a break in with a diesel? The only think I had to do was drive 1000 miles before towing anything.

The manual said vary speeds for the first 500 miles without towing and then first 500 miles of towing do not exceed 50 mph. I saw on a diesel forum that it is more for the gearing to break in.

Since we had a breakdown on the road and had to replace the TV, we towed right from the dealer with less than 100 miles on the odometer. Dealer said no worries about break-in; just pull it like you always do. Pulled 1500 + miles at 60-63. Mileage keeps getting better. Now, empty, 19-20; 11-12 pulling the Montana. 2016 3500 DRW CTD w/Aisan.

F350
With a fully loaded unit, SRX, golf cart, 2 weeks worth of 'stuff' and full load of fresh water, getting 11-12 on the flat. Can't complain.

Averaged 13mpg with our new truck on a 200 mile trip with the new truck and trailer. I'm happy with that vs the 9-10mpg we used to get with the 2014 F-150 ecoboost.

After 1000 miles drain that rear diff fluid and replace with a good, synthetic (limited slip capable, if applicable) fluid to get the wear metals out. Also be a good time to install a Mag-Hytec cover with magnetic dip stick, drain plug and more fluid capacity.

Curious about the golf cart. What do you do with it?
