Getting excited to start full timing this next year. Our tow vehicle is a 2008 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4x4 6.4L diesel. Plan on purchasing a Montana 3455SA fiver. The Mrs. and I have been campers for over 40 years and owned just about every different kind of camping vehicle made. Look forward to hearing from all.

Welcome to the forum, Oh Don. Glad you're here and hope to learn from your years of RV'ing. One of the big topics recently has been towing safely and staying within the GVW/GCWR with newly purchased trailers. I notice you're towing with a 2008 F250 Diesel and considering a Montana 3455SA fifth wheel. From what I see, the payload on your truck should be around 27-2800 lbs and a max fifth wheel towing rate of about 15,000 lbs. If my numbers are close, then that trailer with an empty pin weight of 2060 lbs and a GVW or 15560 lbs would be pushing your truck to the very limit if not exceeding the weight ratings. Just a casual observation, not trying to be critical, but thought I'd mention the observation hopefully before any deposits are made, just in case you hadn't done the load rating checks yet.

Again, welcome and hope to see more from you as the weeks progress.

stop already with the weight posts. if someone has a question about weight fine he is looking for a response do not offer a opinion when it wasn`t asked. i hope you enjoy your new rig and welcome hope all this other stuff ends unless asked.

Fred:
If you read JRTJH's post carefully, I believe he was making a well-intended, polite and helpful observation and opinion as well as extending a welcome to this new member. Are you saying that our members should not offer an opinion unless specifically asked for one? I would hope that all of our members feel free to post their opinions and comments so long as they are done in a respectful, polite and helpful manner--as was done by JRTJH.

i feel the same as you. my point was this was a 40 year veteran of the rv lifestyle and he was just saying hello and why would someone have to start on the weight issue when he is just telling everyone about himself and tow rig. i know this is a very hot topic and myself want to be as safe as possible. but not everyone agrees with the so called weight police and has a specific question or comment not even relating to weight but some people feel a need to always go there. it is just my opinion not looking to start another weight discussion unless asked.

Oh Don,
Welcome to the forum. DW and I also have had various motorhomes in the past and are moving to a 5th wheel as well. Also, have looked at the 3455SA, enjoy the floor plan a lot, but really want something closer to 35feet in length so we're looking at the 3100RL. Either way, again welcome to the forum:wave:
