Hi Everyone! To make a long story short, when our battery in our 2012 Passport 195rb was running low after a long dry camping trip, I stupidly kept holding the awning button to roll it in. Took forever and that's when I fried out the motor. My husband removed it from the arm and I took it to a electrician who verified I had "killed" it. I have emailed Keystone at least 6 times and tried dealerships etc to find a reasonably priced motor. Keystone replied that I should buy a whole new awning set to replace it. Our awning is pristine so why would I do that? Anyway, if anyone knows a reasonable way to find the motor I would love to hear about it.

Welcome to the forum: wlcm:

Skip Keystone and go straight to the maker of the awning. If you can extend the awning manually there will be a tag on the fabric with a bunch of numbers, it will help a lot.

Odds are the awning is either a Solera by Lippert or an A&E by Dometic. They both have websites that you might be able to buy just the motor. As I remember the Solera motor is the same as a GM window motor. There is a thread here that explains that.

I posted this a while ago: Hope it helps you! My awning motor was making a lot of noise on the retract and was also painfully slow. Thanks to Kathy Terry who posted on this forum back in November, I ordered a replacement from RockAuto.com for $12.70, paid $7.99 for shipping for a total of $21.48. It was a simple job to replace. The replacement motor does not have the override in case of failure, so I ordered a spare. It takes about the same amount of time to use the override to retract as it does to change out the motor! The best price I could find online for the stock replacement motor #266149 was $142 on Amazon. In case anyone is interested, here is the info on the replacement motor. RockAuto.com, 1994 Chev Lumina drivers side window motor, VDO WL42005. Perfect fit, all metal, durable, and quiet!

JimQ,

Is your awning a Lippert Solara or a Dometic awning ???

In other words, which awning brand does the GM window motor actually fit?

The motor is for the LIPPERT SOLERA, sorry for any confusions.

No problem !!! I just wanted to be sure. The OP's awning is a Dometic and AFAIK, the GM window motor won't fit....

Well its been 6 months of searching, using Awning manufacturers, Keytsone again, and no one seems to be able to help. It seems like such a basic item, small motor to connect into the arm of the awning structure and boom, we should be good, but not so. I may have to go to any small engine repair place and see what they can come up with. Thanks everyone for the prior suggestions.

Do a yellow page search or online for electric motor repair company’s in your area... I take my alternators and starter motors to a local shop that specializes in 12 volt motors.. you may be able to have the brushes replaced on the motor or other repair as long as it didn’t burn up completely.. they can usually source another similar motor if needed

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunatley it was totally burned out and my husband sent it to the trash. It seems so odd that I can't find a motor but maybe its like printer ink, cheaper to buy a new printer than buy the ink. Thanks again for the suggestion. I may just call some repair places and see if they can make one.

Canadian Sue,

I'm still not completely sure which Dometic awning motor you need, but there are quite a few for sale on EBay. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=DOMETIC+AWNING+MOTOR&_sacat=0

You can also get one from Amazon Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/Dometic-3310423209U-Drive-Assembly-Awning/dp/B07L3JF78D/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=dometic+awning+motor&qid=1618799590&sr=8-15

Or from Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Dometic-3310423-209B-WeatherPro-Awning-Assembly/dp/B06XY5BRZC/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=dometic+awning+motor&qid=1618799656&sr=8-2

The Canadian price is $565 and the US price is $341. So, depending on your circumstances and the exchange rate, one is probably quite a bit cheaper than the other.....

As I said, I'm not sure which awning you have and which motor you need, so do some checking on part numbers to make sure what you buy will fit your awning.

I don't recall where/when I read that there's an older GM power window motor that's a direct replacement. Might Google something like that.
I can't believe Dometic wasn't of any help with a replacement?
Might try Carefree of Colorado, their motors may be the same?

Danny,

The GM window motor fits the Lippert Solara awnings, not the Dometic awnings...
