Anyone have special AZ & CA Camping Locations you want to share?

Hi everyone

Well, we're trying to plan our next "Snowbird" trek for hopefully sometime in January till April.

We have 3 weeks booked in Borrego Springs, CA (which we love), but the rest is open. That's why I thought I'd come to the experts and see if you would share some of your "finds".

We're not big into the huge RV Parks, but hey always looking for suggestions.

P.S. We like 1 - 2 weeks stays to explore the area and then venture on to new areas.

Hey Sebring, I'm originally from the central coast of Calif. My two favorite places to camp up there are Cachuma Lake just North of Santa Barbara where the movie stars live and the movie Sideways was filmed. Santa Yanez Valley has the Chumash Indian Casino, Bullelton Danish Town and Solvang. The area is known for it's winerys and celeb's.
Straight West of there a few miles is Jaloma Beach where you can camp on the sand, fish from the shore and swim in the Pacific Ocean. If your lucky you might even get to see a Rocket Launch from Vandenberg AFB.

I was looking at that area...wineries!!!

Now, I doubt if we'd be swimming in the Pacific in February...us Canadians are tough, BUT not that tough...ha ha ha...as we have been wanting to camp next to the ocean. I'll definately be checking out these spots.

Hey all you fellow RVer's...Ruffus has been great with info on some nice areas...someone else must have some favorite spots. I prefer to go on personal references, than digging through books and internet all the time, even though we've enjoyed the areas we've found from there.

If you're going to be in the Tucson, AZ area... I'll suggest Cactus Country RV. We always stay here when visiting our son & his family. It's outside of town - peaceful & quiet - but only about 1 mile from Interstate 10 (Exit 275). Our only complaint is that the WiFi can be spotty near the back of the park. http://abtucson.com/index.php

There's also Beaudry RV in Tucson, which is nice -- we simply prefer the outskirts of town. http://www.beaudryrvresort.com

Another vote for Cachuma Lake in CA, our best yet in this area.... and yes, wineries are not far away, also Solvang is close by, a great little town to see.

One other place we haven't camped at, but looked at and are considering soon is Lake San Antonio, but not as many hookup sites there I believe.

If you're looking for more RV resort types, we've only done one, and didn't like that type of "camping" as much. That was the Wine Country RV resort in Paso Robles, CA. A very nice place to park your RV, and visit the surrounding areas. We went on a holiday weekend, and it was very crowded, but again, it's a nice place, clean, pool, other amenities, but not our style.

Slab City...well we're not far from there so decided to take a day trip "just to see". Oh my, we're so glad we did...just not our "cup 'o' tea". We heard years ago it was a beautiful place to go, unfortunately a few generations of campers have left it looking like a dump. So sad...my daughter was with us for the drive and she was actually scared. (she's 28 years old). As they say, different strokes for different folks...thanks for the suggestion tho'.

Its not the campers that leave the mess... its the squaters and the free loaders that are making the mess... and a lot of the mess is from the towns folk who dump here rather than pay to use the town dump.

I believe Slab City is free. Unfortunately that draws alot of rif raft!
