Water pump not shutting off

The water pump in our Passport 238ML is often not turning completely off on its own. You can hear a low rumbling sound coming from it. Is this a shutoff valve problem or possibly something else? How do I diagnose and fix this? It's a bother to have to switch it off at the wall and with occasionally forgetting to do that I'm concerned about wearing out the pump.

Make sure that you have purged ALL the air out of the system. Outdoor shower is often missed.

If it’s not shutting off then there is an issue. Bad pressure sensor in pump, clogged filter, leak in the fresh water system.

I agree with Chuck, and to expand on that a little I would look at the pump and see if there is a filter on it, and if not consider adding one. My Passport did not have a filter so I bought one and even after 5 years, the pump was still sucking up debris from the tank. Thankfully, my Cougar came with one already installed, but I don't know if it is because it is "standard" now, or just because it is a higher model line?

My wife has problems with funky water so I invested in a 3 stage filter system that I use when filling my tank or when in a water hookup. I'll check for a internal OEM filter though.

Do you know if the pressure sensor is in the pump or separate?

The debris I was referring to is manufacturing debris from when the tank was drilled for fittings. Without that screen filter on the pump inlet, you will be sucking up bits of plastic for years

Some pumps have an adjustable pressure switch. It is built into the pump.
