Replacing blinds

Hey everyone I bought a 2004 Keystone Laredo (I know over 20 years old) but seems in decent shape. I got it for my buddy and I to go on Fly fishing trips that we basically just eat and sleep and are gone all day fishing. It has what I assume are the original day/night shades that just don't work anymore. You really have to fight them and half are just hanging sideways and don't work. I am going to remove the valances and would like to install Blackout roller blinds so my question is this, how do you make sure the blinds stay attached at the bottom so they are not just slapping back and forth when traveling and do you just make sure when ordering they are wider than the window. I am really looking for something much easier to use that I can install easily. Sorry for the rookie question but I'll warn you more are coming. Thanks

Roller shaders don’t get attached at the bottom. You travel with them retracted. If your current day/night shades have strings that attach to “buttons” on the wall, you can simply adjust the string tension.

Thanks for quick response and that makes perfect sense. Half of the blinds have just been used for too long and are unfixable. thanks Chuckster57

We've switched out all of the blinds in our camper with roller shades and always retract them for travel days. However, we noticed that sometimes the bottoms would slap against the wall if there was a breeze through open windows. The shades have 2 different types of weighted rods at the bottom, so we solved this issue in 2 different ways. For flat rods, we put a Command strip (or Velcro will work) on the back of the rod and the wall and just attach while the shade is down. For round rods, we bought knock-off Command plastic hooks with openings large enough to fit the rod at Dollar Tree and stick them on the wall under the windows. When rolled down, the shade rod sits nicely in the hook pockets with minimal movement on breezy days. Hope this helps.

very much appreciated thanks

We found Home Depot had the best selection and prices for shades. Just an FYI, pay close attention to the width. Some are 1/2 shorter in width than the specs. I am not sure why any company would do that, but they do.

Depends on the mounting hardware. If it uses the “boxes” at each end they allow that for “inside” mounting on a S&B house.

I made the mistake of going to Lowe's for roller shade for our bedroom about 15 years ago. I measured the space, went to the store, told the "shade cutter" the size I needed. He cut them, I got them home and they were 1/2" too narrow... Seems at the time, at Lowe's, if you ordered 36" shades, you got 35.5" shades "Every time"... It's about 20 miles to town, so that was nearly a 100 mile day just to pick up a couple of roller window shades... They were around $10 each, the diesel on the other hand was significantly more than the shades....
