Guys, I don’t know whether to die laughing, or just laugh in a sad way at the price. Long story short, the Paradigm needs new sneakers. We got 4 summers (and almost 21,000 miles) out of the original tires, so I was going to replace them anyway next spring. Got a hole in one tire bringing it home from the campground Friday night (thank god TPMS works great!), so definitely getting new tires no matter what now, just a few months earlier than planned. I stopped in at the local tire place we’ve gone to for years for tires. Sailuns are $195/tire. Goodyears are $540/tire. *gasp, choke*. I thought I for sure had to have heard wrong with the Goodyears….. I’m going to be looking around. Because the other brand they deal with in our size is Trailer King. Ewww!!!

So, now the search is on - ST235/85/R16 in load range G. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Preferably ones that aren’t $540/tire…because I’ve never even paid that for the tires on my mustang….

Not sure where you were shopping at for those $540 Goodyear tires.
But Tire Rack has them in stock for half that price.

Hmmm….I think he gave me a wrong item. The Goodyears quoted were G614’s, which look to be LTs instead of STs. Thank you RollaMo for getting me to go looking at the ones you posted! I was wondering how so many people on here could/ would want to afford the Goodyears.

Yeah, after I posted the Goodyear pic, I read your post again.
I notice you listed ST235/85/16 Load Range G

I don't see any Endurance ST tires listed with that "G" load range.

I see that G614 is an RST LT235/85/16 LRG and yes, it is expensive.

I vote for Carlisle's. Had them on 2 previous trailers and never had issues. Don't know what the price is now, my fifth wheel is now running on Hercules (5 years now, still doing good).

Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires are not made in ST235/85R16 LR G. So Radial Trail HD is not an option.

Carlisle does make the CSL16 all steel ST line in that size. They are available most places for somewhere between $170-190 per tire. I have no personal experience with the CSL16, but all the reports on the forum about them have been positive. Here's the link to the Carlstar site: https://www.carlstar.com/our-products/product-detail/csl16/

Carlisle has been one line in the Carlstar LLC conglomerate for a number of years. Recently, Carlstar, for some reason, has dropped the Carlisle tire brand on most of their inventory and are marketing the tires under the Carlstar brand. Same tires, same options, same pricing, but a different name on the sidewall.

The CSL16 line is available at Discount Tire, Priority Tire, WalMart, Amazon, Tire Mart, Simple Tire and a whole lot more online distribution centers. Shop around for the best price and Discount Tire usually will meet/beat their competition.

Hercules Tires seem to also be an "up and coming brand" in the LR G lines of tires. Sailun, has historically been an "under $200 tire line", so the pricing for Goodyears seems way out of line !!!!!

Ive been running a set of ST235/85x16 Sailuns for 3 years now.. They look as good as the day I installed them.. They are a great tire ... IMO... Hercules H901 is also an excellent 14 ply G rated ST tire as well

We've been dealing with tire issues for 30 years. Our latest trailer has had three sets of tires in two years. Each winter we take a 10,000 mile road trip to Florida. First year we replaced the originals with G614 for $3,000 in San Antonio. This year we have replaced two of the G614's and need to replace the last two. Instead we went to Tredit in Elkhart and bought 17.5" wheels and tires, same diameter as the 235/85 16's, for $1,600. Way more weight capacity and tougher tires.

At LR-G I believe that some tires will be "Commercial" grade i.e. all steel construction. Others may be more like regular LT construction i.e. Polyester / Steel. Commercial tires have in general proved themselves to be more robust and able to deliver longer life.

If you have confirmed your actual weight and that LR-G is what you need you would probably be better off with the all steel construction and to run at least 10% more inflation that the Load Inflation table advises for minimum inflation as long as you do not require full LR-G inflation.

Price of tires

Get a Price quote On Carlisle tires. I bought a set Three years ago and have had zero problems with them. They’re competitive or lower price than many of the others. I have no complaints.

We ran 16" load range G tires on our 3 axle 20,000 LB 5er for 10 years full time. The first set was Hankook and never an issue for 5 years. I replace then with the GY G6124 tires and never a problem with them.

Yeas the GY tires are expensive, but they have a much better warranty against tread separation than the other brands. Cheap tires can be EXPENSIVE in the long run when they blow. Our daughter had a 2 year old tire blow and the repair bill was $4300 and without the trailer for 8 weeks for parts and repair. The apparent damage was minimal.

I refuse to run cheap tires and brakes on my RV and truck. It is not worth the risk.

I know a number of people using the Saliun tires with good success. Make sure you weigh the loaded trailer and get tire rated for more than your weight.

There is NO RV tire out there worth $500 plus a tire... In My Opinion. I ran a set of tires with an off brand name sold by Les Schwab Tires for 7 years on my Alpine fifth wheel. They were Geo Star size ST235/85x16..

** I ran these based on all the horse trailers in the local area running them with no issues.

I switched to Sailun this time based on tire availability and cost in my area.

I would have bought the Hercules H901 instead had they been readily available here in S Idaho.

While the GYG614 "LT" rated tire was a good tire on many fifth wheels and came stock OEM on the Montana for a while it no longer meets the RVIA recommendations for 7K axle setup

The Montana line switched over to the Sailun tire back around 2018 or so.. Its still being used as the OEM tire on the 2024 and 2025 units.

I just got the Hercules H901 235/80R16 LR G. I had two failures of the Trailer Kings on my 2021 Sprinter 3190RLS this year. The Trailer Kings were just over 30lbs per tire and the Hercules (Made in Thailand) are just over 60 lbs per tire. They are commercial all steel construction. The sidewalls are much tougher and don't flex like the OEMs. They have a 72-month warranty. I asked my local garage to get me Sailuns and the local distributer couldn't get them and recommended the Hercules. The Hercules look just as robust as the Sailuns. I'll give an update on how they hold up. The price was $864 out the door for all four mounted and balanced. The photos show one of the failed Trailer Kings, the other one had failed belts and the tread was convex rather than flat. The one in the photo blew 30 miles after a fuel stop and had only just got on I-66 from US 17, I checked the tires when we fueled up and the TPS showed normal pressure and temps. The second photo shows the Hercules.

Although I never had an issue with my Trailer King tires in almost 30,000 miles of use on my Passport, I was amazed at how light the tire was compared to the Goodyear Endurance I replaced them with. The sidewall of the TK was also very “floppy” and nowhere near as stiff as I would have thought.
