Hello, well like most we have been campers and RV'er for some time. Last week I traded my Komfort 22 after 7 years and purchased a 2024 (new) Couger 260 MLE.

We will pick it up on Monday the 20th of Jan and we are very excited. We put the additional AC unit in it...for trips to FL and TN to see the grandkids. In addition, we added the 400i solar package for stops at Harvest Host and to get in some Parks on the Air (POTA) fun.

I am pulling the Cougar with a 2022 Ford F250 6.7 diesel Crew Cab. Very excited to hit the road and see this this great Nation.

I hope to see you along the way!!

Congratulations on the new trailer!

I assume you meant 6.7L diesel not 6.4L right?

Anyway, I am not trying to rain on your parade, but I do have to mention that you are over the weight carrying capacity for your truck, so you may want to pump the brakes a bit and do a little more research before you find yourself in too deep.

It isn’t an issue of the truck pulling the RV, it will do that very well, but rather the issue is carrying the weight of the RV on the tires, axles, and frame of the truck.

You can go to your owner account at Ford and then access the towing calculator tool, plug in your occupant weights, cargo weights and accessories weight and it will tell you your max pin weight for your truck.

Oddly enough, I’m going to take a different approach to the weight situation the OP has. His RV will have a hitch weight (realistically) around 2400 pounds if he and his family have 1,000 pounds of gear in the RV. His tow vehicle should have a cargo capacity in the neighborhood of 2600 pounds. If I’m even close this will leave him only out of the envelope by maybe 300 pounds.
I’m not saying this is the safest route to take, nor am I saying these numbers are accurate. But before he and Momma pack up the brood and truck on over to their friendly Ford dealer, better to actually take a run over to your local CAT scale.
I don’t think I would take on new debt over a couple hundred pounds.
I hope the OP will forward his figures on to us so we can go from there.

I would also recommend getting an actual weight of the rig and truck at a Cat Scale. The Op has added a a/c unit that's far forward so the "published" empty weight (which is notoriously inaccurate) has been altered without loading anything else inside.

Load the camper and truck to go camping, ie people, clothing, food, fuel, etc. and plan on enough time to visit a Cat Scale either nearby or on in route to your camping destination. They have a very good website explaing everything about weighting procedure at catscale.com .

Welcome to the forums and congrats on getting your new Cougar. I hope you have great success with it. You are not a newbie to RVing, (for sure), so I'm sure you have everything well thought out and planned. All you need to do now is get the camper, load up, and have fun!

So, the weight police have already posted. They mean well, but I do encourage you to consider the actual pin weight of the Cougar and your cargo weight as others have suggested above.

I can offer you one bit of advise to help reduce some of that carrying capacity weight. The fifth wheel hitch you purchase will add considerable weight to the bed of your truck. So, choose carefully.

I can recommend the Demco Recon standard fifth wheel hitch. It's the only one I've had in my dually since we got our 14,000 pound Montana High Country. The entire weight of the fifth wheel hitch is less than 100 pounds and separates into 3 pieces, each weighing a third of that, easy to remove by one person and easy to re-install. Or you can go with a hefty one that will weigh several hundred pounds and takes a crane to remove from the bed of your truck.

The Demco Recon is a fine hitch. Explore it before you make your final purchase. Click Here

Good luck! and enjoy your new camper.
