Finally got around to adding a TV to the new trailer (2024 Keystone Hideout 175BH). I did a fair amount of research before settling on this TV, mount, and mounting method.
Materials List:
- Wood 3/4" thick, 11x19"
- 6 sheet metal screws (#12, 2" long)
- 6 sheet metal screws (#12, 1" long)
- Adjustable RV TV Mount #MD2210
- 27" Smart TV (I went with an LG model 27LQ625S-PU).
Considerations:
- Where and how to mount: The unit came with a "Mount TV Here" sticker on the wall, but there isn't a backing plate behind there. The best way to mount a TV is to use a stud finder to locate the two studs, mount a piece of wood to the two studs, and then mount the TV to that wood. I used a good piece of wood, 3/4" thick, 11"x19", lightly sanded it, and painted it a flat gray for aesthetics.
- Choosing a TV: Other user groups have people using either a 24" or 32" class TV. One is too small, one is too big, so the Goldilocks solution is to get one that is "just right". A 27" class smart TV seems just about perfect for the space allocated on the 175BH. I found a 27" LG that was perfect (Best Buy has them for $179, or has open box models for about $120). Whatever TV you choose, make sure it is VESA mount compatible.
- What size screws: I contacted Keystone customer service and verified through a technician that you can sink screws that are 1.25" long into the studs. My wood base was 3/4" thick, so I got 2" long screws to mount the wood base (1.25 + .75"). Don't use screws that are too long or they will poke through the exterior of your rig (not good).
- What mount: I used an adjustable RV mount from Amazon that when closed, it locks into place with a firm "click" and wont move around during travel, but then when you get to the campsite, you just pull the strap to enable the TV to pull away from the wall and gives you full adjustability to angle the screen down at the bed, or at the dinette area.
I am really happy with the end result. The mount feels solid. It locks into place when traveling but then pulls out to be angled at the bed or dinette. It's a smart TV with built in Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. The audio is adequate, but easily connects wirelessly to a Bluetooth speaker of you want better sound quality.
