Installing Max Air Vents

Hi All,

I'm going to install Max Air Vents on my Lerado 314RE this weekend. I have researched and watched the installation video's, and from what I can see, the vents attach via a bracket directly to the framing of the factory crank up vents.

Nothing I have seen so far speaks to sealing around the vent with any type of self leveling sealant. To me, it appears that while traveling down the road, wind would get under the vent an maybe rip it off or something.

Looking for advice from somebody more experienced with these.

They don't fit flush to the roof and the wind doesn't seem to bother them because of the way they are designed. They work well keeping the rain and other misc stuff out.

The mounting is very secure and the vent cover itself is actually pretty robust, much more than the vent lid itself. They recommend to not caulk the MaxxAir vent cover bottom to allow air circulation and avoid condensation.

No worries if you follow the installation instructions (primarily, the opening faces the rear of the trailer).

Make sure when installing the L shaped brackets, make sure they are installed high enough so there is a slight gap between the vent over and the roof membrane. This makes it easier to rinse out crud that builds up between the roof and the vent shroud. (Leaves, bugs, etc). Install is very easy, just take your time when marking and drilling holes in roof vent lip.

Just installed one on my unit last Friday. The frame does mount to the roof, but you need to use butyl tape on the bottom side, and then use some self leveling Dicor on the edges making sure you cover the mounting screw heads.

The one in my bedroom has been there for a few years and no leaks, the rubber gasket that the actual vent seals against is all you need for that seam.

Because of the vent design, no vent cover is required.

All the Maxx-aire vents I have put on all mount a little above the roof with screws and nuts.......nothing touched the roof.

Vents like Max air have a scoop lid that doesn't require a vent cover.

There are a few different vent covers, including max air and Max air II. These do use brackets that attach to the vent.

I just installed the maxair 2 vent cover on my 2024 keystone cougar 2100rk. It turned out great. Iv been hearing about installs that have to scrap away the roof sealant around the vent. I did not have to scrap away none of that. I installed the brackets right on top of the existing sealent. I think it says it's ok to do so. Vent clears lid when vent is open and my fan works in the bathroom also.

Bolts directly to the galvanized portion of my current bathroom vent. No sealer required. The hardest part was getting on the camper.

I can tell you from experience that the MaxxAir II vent covers are significantly better than the original MaxxAir vent covers.

I had the MaxxAir II covers on my Passport, and my crank-up vent lids were open 24/7, 365 for 5 years and we never had a drop of water or a flake of snow get inside.

On my new Cougar, I had convinced the dealer to install two MaxxAir vent covers as part of our deal, but I failed to specify that I wanted MaxxAir II covers, so they installed the original style. At some point in the 600+ miles between the dealer and home, the front MaxxAir cover blew off.

There are two differences between the two units; the MaxxAir II covers have more ventilation surface area, and uses a hinge on one side and locking pin-clips on the other side, so they can be hinged open to clean/service as needed. The original MaxxAir covers use carriage bolts with a star washer and nut on each corner to secure it to the vent frame. In my case, the nuts spun themselves loose, and allowed the cover to lift up, catch the wind and fly away. When I noticed it was gone, I went up on the roof and found all 4 bolts still in place, one with the star washer and nut intact, and two nuts and no star washers visible on the roof.

The dealer owned the issue, and is sending me two MaxxAir II covers that I will install myself.

For the larger vent area and greatly improved mounting mechanism compared to the miror cost difference, I would highly recommend the MaxxAir II vent covers hands down.

Maxx Air vent cover didn't require Dicor or butyl tape for me. Never had the nut/star washer come loose like @NH_Bulldog, but probably a good idea to use some blue Loctite on the threads just to be sure.

Too bad Maxx Air won't fit on my RVLovent though, I miss having the cover.
