GM 6.2L gasser recall

I wonder how they will determine if you have a bad crank or con rod? I would think the oil pan has to come off at a minimum.

If all they do is listen for a "thunk, thunk, thunk" lots of folks may have an unexpected, unpleasant experience down the road....

I'd like to see the guidelines of the inspection they require to determine if a replacement engine is needed. I've read where there seems to be a number of engine failures happening with these. I would be tempted to be sure to tip the service writer, manager and technician to convince them to look for and find the defect.

I had a 2017 6.2 23k miles it ate the lifters and camshaft. Gm wouldn't replace the engine. Just the parts that failed. I went to the dealership while they had it apart and it had metal in the oil pan. Took pictures and asked the service manager if he would want that in his engine. He told me it's Gm policy. I got rid of it at 52k miles with another ticking lifter. I am done with GM. Transmission, engine, problems. I even had a transfer case fall off at 3000 miles in 1990 brand spanking new k1500. I tow with a 2008 Ram1500 with 170k+ miles. Just towed 5 hours through the Poconos. My next truck I'm thinking a F250 with the 7.3l gas.

Thats a very good and dependable package. I went with the diesel only because I don't like to listen to the motor in the hills and I live in a valley and everywhere is up hill from here.

If I read right first it says only vehicles in dealer inventory. And if doesn’t have a P0016 DTC (crankshaft/camshaft correlation) it’s ok….a stretched timing chain could give you that code and it doesn’t rule out a bad crank or con rod IMO.
