Fridge shelf notch?

I assume this notch in the shelf is for tall bottles?

We never have tall bottles or containers.

Any tips on how to make a cover to gain more shelf space? Or can I buy a rack with no notch?

Purchase a plastic (vinyl) cutting board and just put it over the entire shelf. If it's too big, simply cut it down to size with a saw, slide it in on top of the shelf and all is good!

If you are concerned about air flow with a solid shelf, then look for some heavy duty screening material and cut it to size, enough to cover the entire shelf, and especially the hole.

Its for a 1 gallon milk jug. You could possibly buy a wire shelf from Lowes/Home Depot/etc in the right dimensions and put it in place of the existing shelf

Your refrigerator looks like a Dometic 2652 (6cuft) that refrigerator is the same size (width/depth) as the Dometic 2852 (8cuft). The 2652 has one full size shelf and that cutout shelf. The 2852 has two full size shelves and that cutout shelf.

Here is the "parts diagram/part number" listing for what I believe is your refrigerator. The shelf you want is part 17 on page 7 and part number 3850324017 on page 8. (VERIFY that your refrigerator is a Dometic 2652/2852 before you order any parts. You do not need the attaching hardware, you can reuse what is on the cutout shelf that you remove.

If that is the shelf for your refrigerator, it has been discontinued by Dometic, not available at any of the "internet parts houses" that I use, but there is one available on EBay for $30 and $10 shipping. The MSRP at Dometic is well over $100 plus shipping, back when they did have them in stock.

I have never ordered from that EBay provider, so I have no idea about what you can expect in the way of service, speed of shipping or accuracy of the listing description.

Thanks, it is a Dometic 2652. I'll take a look.

let me know if it works.
I received the plastic shelf, unfortunately, the locking clips do not align with the bars on my shelf, and I broke one trying to find a way to make it work.
In defense to myself and the seller, it does say: "Lid for some Dometic refrigerators".

My favorite hobby is to modify things, so this will be no different and I will make it work.

It was $31 for shelf & shipping, so if you feel lucky, give it a try. Good Luck.

I did a little more googling and this is what I found. So not designed for a wire shelf. Hopefully you can make something work.

Just a suggestion:

Rather than spend "big bucks" on a "might work solution", Why not pull the shelf, buy a $2 length of white wire closet shelving from Lowe's, cut the white shelving to fit. Cut it a tad bit too long so you can use needle nose pliers to wrap the extra length around the shelf, then turn the whole shelf around so your "repair/mod" is in the back and not quite as noticeable.

What I did for now was cut an aluminum 1/8" plate on our router at work the exact size to fit in the spot. I flipped my shelf over so the ribs are on top. That way the aluminum plate won't slide side to side or rearward.

My wife wanted it removable for the odd time we have a tall item. If I find it popping out of place and she's not putting in tall items I'll drill a few holes and zip tie it in.

I'm not sure if your comment on "spending big bucks" was directed at me for spending $30 on a maybe it might fit. For me, it was a $30 I was willing to chance that it might fit, and perform the modification to make it fit and be done with it.
I do challenge you to show where you found a $2 shelf at Lowes that's worthy of cutting and bending and fitting in so it looks like it suppose to belong and not rust in a weeks time.

For what it's worth, just to end my input on this topic, there are many ways to get something done, and I simply shared mine, and what I intend to do with it going forward. With all due respect, isn't that what these forums are for, sharing information and ideas, along with our successes and failures amongst other readers???

Thanks

First, my comment on "spending big bucks" was a general statement and not directed at anyone. There were/are comments about buying a new shelf (cost with attachment hardware if you can find one) will approach $75-80. To me, that's "big bucks".

As for the second comment about "simply sharing ideas". I did EXACTLY what you did, shared my idea.

There's no need to get your "knickers in a wad" over an internet post that you interpreted as an "affront to you". It was not intended that way, or I would have quoted your post and directed my comments to your post, just like I did in this post....
