Feel like the Ugly Duckling

We are in our normal RV Campground while we undergo medical treatments. This occurs every other week for two day stays. This time the back-ins that we normally use were all full and we ended up in one of their few pull thru sites.
We are alongside a Class A Monaco, the next one down is a DRV D-Suites FULL HOUSE 5er with a custom F550 Tow vehicle, followed by a Million dollar plus new Prevost. Further down the line is a Brinkley 5er along with other major brand Large 5ers. And we are in the top pull thru with our 2021 Cougar 25 RDS TT.

I enjoy watching videos of those huge expensive rigs. I’m also very happy with the rig we have. I think if I was pulling something around that expensive there would be some stress just trying to not mess something up.

If the person in the million dollar Prevost was looking down on your rig he wouldn’t be staying there…he would be at a class A only resort…..Most of the people i’ve met are just happy to talk about places they have been and what they like to do.

Met a couple in the keys with a really nice Newmar Essex that wanted to see how much room we had in our fifth wheel and i asked about class A traveling…they invited us over to see their rig also…They were thinking of gettin a fifth wheel next after multiple Newmar king airs and now the Essex…super nice people.

You also can’t judge a person by what they drive…Some of the richest people i know or knew you couldn’t tell by their vehicles.
My one friend bought a modest looking Class C to travel out west for a few months then used it to travel all over Florida looking for another vacation home to buy on the water….purchased one south of Daytona and if you met him at the campground you would never guess he was a millionaire and has multiple homes.

This forum also has people of all walks of life and all price ranges of rvs that get along nicely because we all enjoy camping.

You bring out an excellent point from a different perspective. I've met lots of folks in fancy rigs that are just plain, ordinary people that give no thought to any rig disparity. Heck we met a couple staying right beside us in a beautiful Newmar that we became friends with. Went to their home, visited them when they moved to a new park then went with them to look at a homesite they bought as we discussed buying one there as well. Like you point out, I think we all should just approach it as if we're all fans of the same game/team with a lot to talk about.

Need to add that the particular RV Park (Walnut Grove) is the only game in town close to KC, the next closest is on the Missouri side at a KOA that charges half again as much as this small facility. There isn't any snobbery, the Prevost folks were there to attend a graduation and then were off to Nashville. The folks alongside us in the Monaco were wonderful RV Texans. The Brinkley folks had a beautiful gathering of local friends, they hung a screen on the side of the rig and projected movies for the kids, good stuff...
Spoke with a Frenchman and his American wife as they hooked up their toad behind a Tiffin Class A.
The next closest is a very nice State Park about 45 mins South of KC.

I worked with an Orthopedist once that retired about age 60, bought a "high dollar DP motorhome" and said he and his lovely bride (also a surgeon) were going to live in their new motorhome for a year and just tour the country. He hired a driver to deliver the motorhome to their next destination, he and DW flew home to Louisiana during "travel days" and then flew to the new destination once they got the call that the motorhome was set up and ready. They did that for almost 2 years and his comment to me when we retired was, "You know, this motorhome living is great. We're really enjoying seeing so much of our country."...

That is too funny, they must have gotten the idea from the NASCAR folks. Those big team drivers fly to the races, and a driver delivers the motorhome to the tracks. I think only one or two race drivers actually drive their own rigs.

BTW: That F550 custom truck for the DVR Elite D Suites Full House 5er had a Hensley Trailer Saver fifth wheel hitch. What an awesome piece of equipment!

IF, we had that kind of disposable funds, I believe we would chose something custom built by New Horizons as their product is truly All Season, and their plant is about 65 miles from our home. Basically homes on wheels.

If you go the the Horizons website, about us, customer comments section, 7th comment down, was made by Ron Nichols. He is a member here, owned an Alpine that he EXTENSIVELY modified for cold weather performance, then traded up to a DRV, and finally, after he retired, bought a Horizons Majestic. His member name is GEO if you're interested in seeing some "OLD stuff about polar packages and how to make things better"... He's a great friend, a very interesting guy, a geologist who can tell "rock stories all night long"...

Been at this cancer treatment process for over four years. Was diagnosed at stage 4 because I never did the scope on a rope. This was at the beginning of the Covid debacle and all support services including Hope Lodge were shuttered. I was under the knife for 4.5 hrs as they gutted me like a deer on the side of the highway. We have been approved and welcomed to Hope Lodge, and their invitation remains open. But, we prefer the known and familiar surroundings of the 25RDS. Last fall we stumbled upon the fact that DW had early stage Pancreatic cancer, she underwent pre-op chemo, has had surgery to remove the tumor from the tail and not the head and is on her second to last post-op chemo. I'll be on chemo for the rest of my life since the chemo that will knock out the cancer that I have nearly killed me!

We don't hide our situation and or condition so that others can be educated about the disease.
