I know I'm not the smartest person out there but would someone please tell me how this piece of equipment is supposed to help me at the dump station?

I hope i set up the file right for you all to see it.

It depends…….

If there is one hose next to the sewer dump it is for sewer rinsing. Every setup I have come across seems to have 3 hoses, one at each end of the island for filling fresh water and one in the middle for sewer rinsing, all labeled accordingly potable or non-potable.

If there is only one, I am not using it to fill my fresh water tank.

annnnnnd to fill the freshwater tank???….right???

Absolutely NOT! That wand gets placed inside sewer hoses to rinse out the hose prior to storing it. That bacteria (with fecal matter) will get transferred to whatever it touches. There should be a a warning sign stating that it's not potable water.

Lol:LOL: yeah I would NEVER fill up with one within 20 yards of a dump station I don’t even like eating on campsite picnic tables after watching people let there dogs jump ….yeah I drink pellegrino ( quit drinking alcohol yeas ago)…wife gets a case of the large bottles every week for me .. and we use regular bottled water for cooking and coffee Mostly do full hookups and only use the water for showers and dishes…even the campsite spigots can be compromised by people cleaning their sewage fittings…no thank you

I've got an old Windex spray bottle filled with 50/50 clorox and water stored in the passthrough next to my fresh water hose and shore power cord. When we arrive at a campsite, one of the first things I do is drag out that bottle, spray the pedestal water faucet and the sewer fitting. Then, when I get around to connecting the fresh water hose, the clorox has had several minutes to "soak on the dirty faucet". I use a clean terrycloth mechanic's towel (used to be 50 for $14.99 at Sam's) to wipe the faucet before connecting. Then I put on exam gloves, connect the sewer hose to the campground fitting, turn the gloves inside out and toss them in the trash or in the fire pit if there's no trash can handy.

I'm with you, NO WAY would I connect to any "unknown fresh water faucet" without cleaning it and letting it run for a few seconds before putting my hose on it.

As for those "fancy dump station islands with the three hoses, center one for rinsing sewer stuff and the ends for potable water, I can't begin to count the number of people who, when the dump station is busy and crowded, pull forward, rinse their sewer hose at the potable water fill station and then put everything away. They "think" they're being nice to people waiting in line, what they're really doing is contaminating the fresh water station for that unsuspecting person who is headed out from there for a 3 day "dry camping weekend".... NO THANKS !!!!! I don't ever put water from anywhere near the dump island into my RV !!!!!

Hope you guys didn’t take offense to my kidding around. My dry humor sometimes doesnt even pass as humor :)

That "attachment" usually is only finger tight and can be easily removed.

Just saying!

To answer the OP's question more direct. That hose is used for clean up at the dump station. The end does not have a regular garden hose connection so it cannot be connected to a black tank flusher equipped in many of our campers. It can only be used as a sprayer.

The reason it's got that L shaped end on it is so one can hold the hose standing up and shoving the end into the discharge pipe of your camper. BUT, it can't go inside the pipe any farther that where the bend in the metal part is. This keeps people from shoving them UP the discharge pipe, like a sewer snake.

The ball on the end is to prevent anyone from shoving them inside any sewer hoses. That ball is bigger round than the diameter of the standard sewer hose, so the hose cannot be shoved inside the hose, making the hose itself more contaminated than it already is. Plus, that ball helps protect the post the hose hangs from and it protects the end of the hose itself. If someone lets go of the hose, the spring at the top of the post is going to fling the hose back to the upright post. When that metal hits, it's going to damage the end. That ball creates a soft cushion when it hits the metal.

I know that you know better. I know it was a tongue in cheek post. The problem is, there are a LOT of newbies that don't know you that might read the post differently. That's what prompted my response.

Fire Pit?

I keep an empty Kleenex box in my pass thru for occasions where a trash can is not provided at the dump station. Once about half full I throw it away at home.

Latex gloves would go in the category of Not in the Fire Pit the same as plastic bottles and forks etc..... Nothing stinks up a camp site like plastics burning. Or wore, smoldering before the fire is reignited.

So far we have found that this attachment has been threaded on to the hose so we have been able to use it for flushing the black tank. I guess it depends on each individual dump station?

S’mores have not been the same since we stopped tossing plastics into the fire ring. Just like my tuna sandwiches went downhill once they making those cans of fishy goodness “dolphin-safe”. Don’t even get me started about the taste of chipped paint since they took the lead out of it. The world is going down a dangerous path.

Does this mean I should stop using old motor oil from the pick up to start the fires with the treated wood scraps from building our new deck?
Brian, I’m going to tell everyone upfront that was tongue in cheek.
