My 5er came with the CRE3000's. I am planning to change to the Road Armor equalizers. The new ones arrived and I see that they have a shorter span than the CRE3000.

Do I need to change from 2.25" shackles to 3.125" shackles?

Out of curiosity why are you removing the MorRydes to install the Road Armor? I went the opposite direction and removed the Road Armor from mine after the first trip and had new MorRydes installed. I like the ride of the MorRyde better (previous trailer had the CRE3000) although there isn't much difference between the two.

No, if you look at the CRE3000, in your diagram, it is "unloaded" you can tell this by the bottom blue part with the "slot extended".. Once you put weight on it, the rubber cushions compress, that slot moves upward and the 5.25" measurement will decrease. How much it decreases will depend on the amount of weight that's pushing down from the trailer center spring hanger (the top hole in the silver part)... I'd suppose it will be roughly enough weight to compress that 5.25" measurement to around 4.5"

Thanks, guys. I don't really have a good reason for switching. The CRE3000's have been on there for 5 years. I've been doing other maintenance on brakes, bearings, bushings, etc., and had them out anyway. I thought after 5 years it might be prudent to do a refresh and thought I'd try the TrailAir's. But it's not looking like a doable switch.

My 2014 Cougar came with the CRE3000 system. Two years ago when I changed out my axles, I was prepared to also change out the equalizers. Like you, I thought, "Heck, they must be worn and in need of replacement after all these years"... I contacted Morryde, asked the question, "How do I know if my CRE3000 system needs replacement?".. They responded with a request for photos. I sent them and they told me "the rubber bushings look good, you do not need to change out your CRE3000 system"... They also sent the CRE3000 Owner's Manual and said the rubber inspection is located on page 5.

I'm attaching the inspection procedure from the Owner's Manual. The bushing must be inspected "under load". If yours are good, and the rubber is supporting the tabs, I'd recommend not changing them for Road Armor. While both are "good" and "maybe equal". I'm a firm believer in Morryde being a step above Lippert. YMMV

ADDED:
I'm attaching the photos of my CRE3000 equalizers that I sent to Morryde for their recommendations. As you can see, they pass the inspection in the owner's manual. I was told they're fine, keep using them. My concern was because they "look old, so they might not be in good condition"... Nope, the manufacturer said they're good and they are still "equalizing as designed, even as we speak... Here's the photos:

The biggest difference between the two is that the Road Armor has rubber bumpers on the top and bottom and the CRE only has the rubber bumpers on the top. I have had both (I added the CRE to my last camper) and my current camper came with Road Armor from the factory.

They both are better than a non-cushioned equalizer and I have not sensed any great difference in ride quality. Unless you have an issue or failure of some sort with the MorRyde, I wouldn’t change them out.

Hmmm. No wetbolts. There's an upgrade I would definitely do.
If you're referring to my photos, yes, there were no wet bolts in the OEM configuration. When I changed out the axles, I replaced the 4400 pound OEM axles with 6000 pound axles, 3000 pound springs, wet bolts/bronze bushings, Morryde XFactor cross braces, upgraded brake wiring for the entire run, enhanced spring hangers and thicker shackles (came with the Morryde wet bolt kit)...

How many XFactor Cross Braces did you install? I did all 3. Oh and what did you do to "enhance" your spring and shackle hangers? Everything else I have. I haven't pulled it since all the upgrades. Probably will tomorrow.

I installed three XFactor cross brace beams, one at each spring hanger. I had cracks in the "Lippert welds" on one of the rear spring hangers, so I had a local fabricating company reweld that cracked hanger and also weld steel plates on the outside spring hanger on all positions. The plates extend from just above the wet bolt hole to about 2" above the existing weld. You could consider it a "patch over the outside spring hanger to better tie them to the frame. I didn't do the inside spring hanger plate because my XFactor mounts were the old style and a thicker plate wouldn't allow the mount to sit properly against the frame/spring hanger... So, the welder recommended just doing the outside that isn't affected by the wet bolt installation or the XFactor installation...
