City Water Backflow/Check valve issue

The check valve in my city water inlet line has failed. Went from a drip to a gush, and I can't clear any debris by depressing it at the white plunger. I thought I would take it out and fix or replace, but I can't seem to get it out. I have put enough torque on it to cause me to worry that it may be glued or otherwise some type of "booby trap".

Questions
1) Does this thing unscrew from the trailer valve manifold? See attached pic.
2) Is there a direct replacement or a handy upgrade that will still allow closure
of the water compartment door.

Unscrew the compartment. There is most likely a fitting with a washer back there. That assembly should be available at any RV parts counter if you need it today.

I will take a look in the pump compartment and then remove the external compartment as you suggest if that will allow access. I was not bothering with it until I pumped a whole gallon of antifreeze out on the ground when I tried to use my pump to run the antifreeze around. I never use the pump otherwise, so it Got Me.

No problem. If you tried to “fix” the backflow valve when there was any water pressure in the line. Drain it and try again before you replace.

Still can't get loose

From the inside, there is an elbow that goes up into the city/fill valve manifold. It still looks like the only way to get the ck valve loose is to get some leverage and torque it. Still afraid I'm gonna break something, but I can at least take four screws out of the valve manifold from the outside, take the handle off, and pull the whole assembly into the trailer. Pulling the compartment out of the trailer wall would be tough because it has lots of foam sealant around the edges.

In the bottom picture, put a slip joint plier on the part coming out of the hole from under it as if you are going to tighten it (clockwise). Use an open end wrench or adjustable wrench on the part the "705" molded on it and orient it to turn the fitting counterclockwise. Remember "loosey lefty". Apply equal pressure to both wrenches/pliers to keep any torque from twisting the fitting that's coming out of the hole. Open a faucet to relive any water pressure first.

Finally got it off.....

Ok, the attached pic shows the piece. Notice it has an inline piece where the yellow gasket material can be seen. Haven't seen this arrangement on any replacements, and most replacements also have a collar near the hose connection for external mounting. This unit is all in the water connections box and has no collar fitting for mounting. I have looked at most of the normal online places but no luck so far. Any suggestions on where to find one?

It would really help knowing what rig you have, brand, model, and year. That way you can go to the Trekwood site to see what that part is, and either buy from them or look for it on Amazon.

Parts ordered, but no luck ordering from Keystone

The specific part was not available at my only local RV parts place (Camping world, nor was the exact part online) for my 2015 Keystone 21RBS. A very helpful lady at Camping world contacted Keystone, but they are not selling this part for anything but warranty work. She gave me the manufacturing info (B&B molding, and their distributor "RvLocksandmore.com"), but they would only sell the entire manifold for ~$100. I did order the unique spacer assemble that was in my connection to allow better sealing between the male and female 1/2" NPT joint. I have order a city water fill assembly online that is similar, and will modify it to make it work. RV work is always interesting!

Translation .. "the manifold is a non serviceable part" . I would do as you have described and make up an adapter from off the shelf stuff from Home Depot so it can be repaired if on the road.

I have the parts for a non-check valve fix from home depot, but you will not find a 1/2" check valve in your average hardware store. Most checks are for well systems and much larger. To get a check valve, you will have to order online or modify a city water manifold that you can get online. My short term option is to use a plug in the end of the fill connection to keep from making a mess, but that makes it hard to close the cover on the fill box and adds one more thing to worry about. Better to have a check valve that works.

The HD near me has 22 1/2" check valves in stock. A decent check valve should not fail over many many years. Most any "hardware store that sells much of any gardening supplies will also sell a check valve that will mount between the hose and the inlet with standard 3/4" garden hose fittings.
