I bought a 2017 Hideout 38FQTS last fall. It has spent it's life in a campground near Lake Erie. We took over the lease for the lot in the campground, as we have a boat docked nearby. We live 2 hours away. The campground has city water, electric, and sewer. The camper was winterized when I purchased it. The campground is closed until April. My camper is plumbed to the sewer hookup. My question is, this camper has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a toilet in each. Can I assume there are 2 black water tanks that are both hooked to the sewer line? I understand that the black tank cannot be left open all the time, but can the gray tank? Thanks

Yes there are two black tanks, and no, they are not likely to exit at the same point (unless someone rigged them together with some creative piping under the camper to a single outlet).

You are correct that the black tank cannot be left open, but for similar reasons, the grey tanks should not be left open either.

If valves are left open, then all manner of bugs and creepy-crawly things can and will come out of the common underground sewer pipe (along with some very noxious and nasty odors). While all those nasties "might" not enter your camper as long as the vents are all working properly, it also means that all that nastiness will exit through the tank vents on the roof of your camper. Imagine sitting outside enjoying a nice dinner and your neighbor flushes their toilet after an all-you-can-keep down jumbo bean burrito contest.......and then that smell starts coming out of your camper roof vents. If you leave your ceiling vents open, that same nasty odor can end up inside your camper depending on the proximity of the tank vent to the ceiling vent.

YMMV
