Installing the new Brondell 1400 bidet and discovered the vacuum breaker on the water inlet to the toilet sticks up above the rim of the toilet impeding the bidet seat. I know some of you have installed these and looking for ideas on how to circumvent this issue. I don't see a part that will do it so I'm wondering if I can Dremel it off and connect the water supply directly essentially bypassing the vacuum breaker.

Since it’s a health/safety device, I would look for a different toilet. As much as I don’t care for Thetford, they are plumbed different.

Like most sanitary vacuum breakers, that device needs to be higher than the appliance it is protecting. In the case of the toilet, it has to be above the rim. Personally I would not mess with the device due to health implications and would go with another toilet.

I ordered another VB and plan to cut the stem off of the old one, add a piece of tubing and extend the new one out of the way. I did have a thought, why wouldn't a check valve work?

Vacuum breaker function:
A vacuum breaker opens a vent to atmospheric pressure when pressure drops in the line, preventing a siphon effect and potential backflow of contaminated water.

Check valve function:
A check valve only allows water to flow in one direction, but if pressure drops significantly, it might not be enough to stop a backflow situation.

Since you are connecting a toilet to your drinking water supply, I would want the correct protection. Contaminated drinking water will absolutely ruin a trip for everyone if even one person gets sick.

Can you replumb that line with vacuum breaker to be further away from the back of the toilet or maybe attach it to the wall behind the toilet? Just remember it has to be removeable if you ever need to pull the toilet out.

Perhaps another option would be to install a toilet seat riser that fits between the toilet and the under side of the seat. Instead of installing the seat, install the Bidet. This way, the riser will give enough clearance it won't interfere with the vacuum breaker.

This is what I plan to do now. It's what I tried to describe in the last post.

I read something where you mentioned this before. I like this idea because it raises the seat height which would be a good thing. Only issue is I think it would have to raise about 2 inches to clear. But I will look at this, I like the idea.

Bidet

I installed the very same bidet on the very same brand and model of toilet. All I did was remove the little cover on the top of the vacuum breaker. That allows the seat to open normally, and the bidet works properly. The vacuum breaker will still function as it should.
