Any Godzilla owners that I can have a phone conversation with? Please private message me and I'll send cell #.

Did you have a specific question about it? I don't have a phone number to give you, but I personally know a guy with a F250 with the Godzilla I could ask.

Edit: He does not pull a 5th wheel, if that is part of the question.

My questions are specific to towing heavy loads (5ers) vs current diesels. Traded 2015 Chev LT Silverado 2500 with 6.2 gasser for 23 Silverado 2500 Duramax and having my first issue with exhaust components- long term doesn't sound great.

Gotcha, so I will be of no help

I had sent you a direct message, but anyway we have 66,000 miles on ours and did our first tow starting at 1,000 miles. We have about 10,000 miles towing our 5th wheel and the engine and transmission on the truck has been great, with an average of 10 MPG towing and 17 MPG not towing (although I dropped to 8.9 MPG on a recent trip from NH through VT, NY, Central PA, West Virginia, Virginia, and Eastern PA back to home. WV killed the mileage, but the truck handled the 5th wheel like a champ.

Gas vs. diesel is a passionate debate amongst fans of each type. I run a small fleet of pickup trucks and service trucks with diesels, and have been shifting over to gas as they come up for replacement. I was not impressed with the GM 6.6L gas engine in both power and mileage, so I have been moving things toward the Ford 7.3L gas after having good success with it in my personal truck.

I've heard great things about the 7.3's abilities other than the gas mileage.

Personally, I have a 6.7L diesel and never check fuel mileage.

We have a 2020 F350 with the 7.3 and pull a 37 foot fifth wheel toyhauler that weighs 12000# empty, so may 15,000# loaded. We just got 7.3 MPG towing in south Florida. The truck easily handles the load.

I have a 14,000 5er that we currently pull with a 2024 F-250 with the 7.3 Godzilla. Love it. Pulls the RV just about as well as the 2014 F-350 with the 6.7 diesel. Mileage suffers. 7-8 mpg vs 12-13 with the diesel. Will it pull a 20,000 lb load… probably not but I don’t need it for that. Plus I don’t have the expensive costs of the modern clean diesels.

A little late to the party, but we bought our new in 2021. Like NH bulldog, we put about 2000 miles on it and we have about 12,000 miles on a fifth wheel that weighs 11,000 pounds.

You learn how to drive it a little bit. Pretty much like everybody else I get about 9 to 10 miles of a gallon and I’ve gotten as much as 19 without anything behind it.

We have 22,000 miles on it so far. We just use it for pulling mainly.

I like to use the cruise control and I have learned how to pull the average hill without the engine rubbing up much past 3000 RPM. I tried to limit myself so it doesn’t run too hard.

It does freak me out when we come down a mountain and it starts shifting down and is running 4000 to 4500 RPM trying to hold the truck back which it does pretty well. So far it’s ran like a champ.

I will say that I changed the oil every 3000 miles, I don’t stretch it to their 5000+ miles recommendations. I only use Mobile one in it also.

We bought this because I had many mechanics. Tell me to stay far away from any of the newer diesels because of all of the new controls for the DEF. They were great until they don’t and then they’re nothing but a huge dollar item to fix.

Hi Flying Jack. Our tow vehicle for our Avalanche 5th Wheel (approx 12,500 lbs loaded) is a 2024 F250 with Godzilla 7.3 engine. Have only had for 6 months but have hauled our rig up and down some decent hills. Plenty of power and torque for me. Gas mileage not great but I didn’t expect it to be. 10 speed tranny shifts smooth and I like the gear control when going downhill while in tow mode. So far no complaints.

Thank you to all who responded; I may have hit the panic switch too early. My Duramax diesel exhaust issues were caused by an actual mechanical failure. Therefore, parts replaced and we're back on the road. I love this truck; but was just very concerned about long term reliability. We're back on the road and running up and down mountain passes with ease so we're staying the course.
Thanks again.

Boy, your oil change interval with a full synthetic oil is a bit of overkill. Using eight qt. of full synthetic oil every 3,000 miles is a waste of money.
Our 2016 diesel has oil changes every 15,000 miles.
Our 2001 had oil changes every 10,000 miles, and looked like the picture below at over 300,000 miles.

We typically change the oil when the IOLM tells me it’s needed based on factors like mileage, engine temperature, time at idle, acceleration, speed, and some other measures the system uses to calculate oil life. On average it is about 7,500 miles on the low end and 10,000 miles on the high end. I use MobileOne full synthetic

I've been running a "boutique" synthetic blend in my vehicles for over 10 years now and usually do my oil changes at 12k miles. I've run oil analysis with additive life on the oil and always have good life left in the mix when changed at the 12k mark.

My 2021 Charger has an oil life meter that is apparently set for 10k oil changes, so I'm in the ballpark.

Griz

Being old school when it comes to working on engines, I have it engrained to err on the side of changing my oil before rather than after. I'm from the change it every 3000 miles era but I have progressed to the 5000 mile mark now. I'm proud of myself!

Understand that motor oil is vastly improved over the oils of 40 to 60 years ago! The detergent formulas are improved as the lubricant itself!
