2022 Cougar 25RDS

Thanks...just got back from a 5 day trip to 2 different parks not too far away. Everything worked great except for the electric stabilizers. Fronts work OK but the rear won't retract. Extends OK but had to use the old school way to retract it.

Don: We had a similar issue with ours when it was new and it turned out to be faulty 12V auto reset circuit breakers.

Thanks for the tip Bob. That sounds better then a new motor. Will give it a try when this rain stops. It's been working off and on but this trip the rear wouldn't retract. Every other problem seems to be corrected.

Also, make sure the threaded shaft is well greased. Obviously, you don't have the road salt issue we do up here, but, something to keep in the back of your mind.

Since we do travel and camp in the winter months, road salt plays havoc on anything below the side skirting.....

Heck, we even had an issue where I had to wash out the fridge exterior controls as road salt residue had shorted out the system. This was during and after those extreme ice storms that raged from Dallas to Kentucky a couple of years ago. We went weatherbound in Arkansas at COE Toadsuck Lock and Dam for several days. Getting caught in snow is one thing, those Ice Storms are DEADLY, as many truckers found out the hard way!

No road salt used down here. We do get road salt when high tides cover LA-1 when going to Grand Isle state park! Still raining here so as soon as I can get outside I'll check it out. Crawfish..crabs and shrimp to boil tomorrow at one of our camping friends on the westbank. Annual get together with old friends that I grew up with. Take care and thanks for the tips.

If the jacks "go down but won't go up" chances are pretty good that the motor and power to the "REVERSING SWITCH" is good. I'd suspect that there's corrosion on one of the contacts inside the "up/down switch" (the up side) and that the "down side" is still working....

Thanks for the info...busy weekend so I'll try during the upcoming week.

Update on the problems we had with our camper. Electric stabilizers now working like they were made to do. Going up or down with no problems. Slide is now going out and coming in as it was supposed to do. Most of all the "In Command" panel has been working like it should. Problem was the cheap 30/40amp automotive style relays in the main control box in the cargo bin. Bought some Top Mod brand relays online and changed all on the right side where they go into the box and all problems are corrected. Amazed no one at dealer knew anything about this fix. Found the cure on another site and the fellow was kind enough to take a picture and post it. Seems like a lot have had the same problem. Easy fix once you know what to do. Towing with a F250 diesel that I bought from son in law since he got tired of me borrowing it to tow with! Wife has the Expedition for an emergency back up vehicle to pull with.

I also have a 2022 25RDS. I fell for the "1/2 ton" BS too. I had a 2013 F 150 with the 8 cylinder engine and tow package. It also had Bilstein Shocks and Firestone air bags. It pulled the trailer fine. Towing it was another thing. I towed it home from the dealer and it scared me in the high winds and truck traffic on I-35 that day. Three days later I had it loaded, set up with a Blue OX 1300lb WDH and took off on my first trip. Again, pretty windy and "truckie" on I-44 and I-40. It was an interesting trip driving with the trailer brakes and accelerator. I made it to the Campground spent a week and drove home. Scary at 55-60-mph. Trailer went into shop for warranty issues and on the way home I bought a 2020 F250 6.7ltr Powerstroke. A month later when I FINALLY got my trailer, I set up the Blue OX and took it on the road for another trip. Smooth as glass with no sway, no wind whip, no struggling on the hills and no squat on the truck, and no puckering on the downhills with the engine braking.
I have put 15k miles towing in CO, WY, SoDak and the UP with 0 towing problems. I must say though, that anyone that would pull this fully loaded trailer with even a F 250 Diesel at 70+ MPH should have their head examined. Too many jackasses on the road that will pull out in front of you, cut you off and even brake check you. My towing speed is 62mph for maximum safety and fuel economy. Enjoy your 25 RDS but be very careful with something as light as an Expedition towing it. Not enough oomph in the ass end, and a strain on that engine. Good Luck
