I have had both. Much prefer the electric for ease of operation. Lighting was my the only problem. Solved by replacing the porch light with a starlight (photo cell and motion detector or can be used manually). That was OK, but still wanted more light like the rope lights on my manual awning. Added LED outdoor strip light connected to porch light on side wall under the awning. I now have more light than I had with the manual awning. Everything is good. Even have great lighting when the awning is in.

Smile Power Awning

Power is the only way to go! I like what someone else replied, when in doubt push the button. I've had my hand caught in between the awning and the camper outside wall in a wind storm. I was hanging there for quite a while till I woke my wife up by beating on the camper wall at 2:00 am to help me pry the support out away from the camper to release my hand. Those days are over with, I've got POWER!

The LED's were what I was planning on trying. Good idea just to run them off the porch light.
