Thumbs up Big Bend National Park - Last years spring visit

Finally got around to doing a full blog posting with are photos.

We had a terrific time and I highly recommend it as a destination. If you like lots of amenities and shopping, restaurants its not for you, but if you enjoy the isolation of the high desert and admire its beauty and nature then its right up your ally.

Ray

What a beautiful place and a great blog! No wonder it's an editor's choice. Someday I'm going to get there. Thanks!

Thanks, it's on our return list for sure. I want to do some more hiking up in the Chisos Mountains, some of the trails have amazing views

For those not familiar with south Texas, the best time to visit Big Bend is early spring, next best time is late fall. Unless you are highly acclimated to extreme heat and low humidity, I personally would not recommend a visit between mid-May and early October. If in doubt, take a practice run to "Burning Man" in Nevada before Big Bend.

Spring is beautiful in Big Bend. Highly recommend it! However, the big event happens on the first weekend of November right outside of Big Bend NP. The Terlingua International Chili Cook-Off. See: http://www.chili.org/terlingua.html. If you are ready to boondock at a unique event like Terlingua, combine a trip to Big Bend, Terlingua Chili, the Marfa lights, and the observatory at Ft. Davis. It will be a trip to talk about for years!
