On the day we picked up the Fuzion 310 with our 2001 Chevy Silverado. I've since added running boards so the wife can get in and out easier.

Changing the transmission fluid on these trucks is not as straight forward as on vehicles with a fill port. There is a method described in the service manual, but don't expect to just go to Autozone and buy 8 quarts of ATF, a filter and gasket and think you're done.

I can't say much about other brands, but apparently Ford is of the "mindset" with the newer F150's that "backyard maintenance" on the transmission at least, is not something they want us to do. There is most likely a reason why they made the decision to delete the fill tube and dipstick, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why. Any F150 owners have any ideas?
Our 2005 Explorer (4.6L V8) has the same set-up. Transmission service at the dealer is done with a power "bowser" that extracts the old fluid, flushes the trans & filter, and then adds the new fluid. I don't like this. Funny, old fashioned ideas about changing the filter instead of back flushing the contaminates through the entire trans. 137,00 mi with our fingers crossed

Not an F150, but the same effort by Ford to force us to service our car at the dealer.

2012 Ford Super Duty SuperCab XLT
  • 6.7L PowerStroke Diesel
  • 6 speed auto tranny
  • Reese Rails and Fifth Wheel Hitch

I've started a separate thread to document the build on this truck into a true multi-purpose tow vehicle and daily driver. There is a lot to be accomplished before camping season starts!
