Toy needs a 3/4 ton in their line up. I would buy one in a heart beat.
Nissan would probably screw up and put a CVT transmission in theirs. Nissan just loves that piece of junk trans.

And thank you for your service in the "Men's Department". Bon Creole is just down the road from me. I've never been there, but I can attest that you won't find any "bad" family restaurants in Cajun Country. I see you're from Tennessee. We have been there many times, even our honeymoon. Beautiful country. Even though my Tundra is not one of the "Big Three", it pulled my camper up and down the Smokies "just fine".

I have a 2002 Toyota Prius with a CVT, and (knock on wood) have had no problems with it. What is it about Nissan's CVT that makes it "a piece of junk" (or are all CVTs in your opinion junk - and if so, why?) or is it that a CVT doesn't make a good hauling heavy-duty transmission (again, if so, why)?

I had considered a Nissan Murano a few years back until I spoke to a long time mechanic buddy of mine, he changed my mind real fast. I bought my wife a Toyota Highlander instead.........sure glad I did. Her Highlander and my Tundra are two of the best vehicles I have owned since I bought my first car 50 years ago.
The main difference is the magical word "Toyota" which equates quality. Toyota builds their own so they have much better quality control, materials, engineering. Nissan's CVT are built by JATCO which they own a part of. High end Nissan Murano, Altima owners were losing their CVT's before the 100K mark. Nissan finally had a Class Action Lawsuit filed against them to help owners out.
Nissan knew it was a defective trans. but used them anyway......they still do and they still have the same problems. Ask a transmission shop about Nissan CVT's.........nobody knows them better.

Equally as bad, our 2006 Ford Freestyle. An absolutely great little car until the CVT decided to go south. 8K quoted at Ford for a new one and no, they won't rebuuild it. Transmission shops told us no, and don't come back. We literallyhad to send the car to salvage. I wish whoever thought up the CVT had one stuck......

I have a feeling the new Tundra will go the other direction - less beefy - more MPG conscious, hope I'm wrong.

@jrtjh, @sourdough and @flyfishMT: Agreed 100%. And like I said on my original post don't ignore the numbers. Just be safe, do your homework, get it weighed, and at the end of the day make sure your black tank valves are ALL the way pushed in before you attempt to connect the sewer hose.

So, being a newbie here, let me see if I have this right. I have a 2008 5.7 4x2 SR5, tow package on it, my Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 260UML is 5912lbs dry, and I can tow 10,200lbs according to GVWR on door. Payload for truck is 1475lbs and ya'll are telling me I cannot tow this trailer?

Look at the sticker on your trailer, specifically the tongue weight. What does it say??

You have about 1,000lbs of tongue weight when loaded. The hitch is about 100. You have 1475 available. You cant use dry weights, you need to use GVW of the trailer because it adds up quick. You now have 375lbs available for passangers and cargo in the truck and thats if you have not installed floormats, mud flaps etc...

Most importantly, Have you cat scaled your set up. The only way you can know if you can tow this trailer within safe limits is to weigh everything. Weigh your truck empty, weigh it ready to camp, weigh with an empty trailer with and without w/d hitch engaged and disengaged, then load it for camping and weigh it again with and without w/d hitch engaged and disengaged. Now, you have the chance to look at all the real numbers, best 50$ - 100$ spent.

It also gives you insight into how much the wdh spreads weight to the other axles. Measuring heights of your wheel wells throughout the weighing process, checking level of both vehicles.
