Ford 6.7 Check engine light on @20K
Was disappointed yesterday when the check engine light came on and did not go off. Brought it into the dealer today for the 20K service, they pulled a P170 code which is pretty generic. Fuel bank pressure, MAF and and other issues will make the code come up. Now here is where it gets frustrating. "We can't even look at the truck till April27th". Unless I want to just leave it there and they can work it in.
Took it to a local shop where all they work on is Ford Diesels and the trucks they are in. they reflashed and updated the PCM per Ford TSB 19-2131 was in and out in an hour for $125. I would have had to pay $100 deductible through Ford for any work the dealer did if I waited.
Rant over. Truck is clean with fresh fluids in the garage

April 27th! What the heck. All for a PCM flash for a TSB. Might ask the dealer to look at that one for getting money

Well as far as the dealer goes, too many broken Fords, or not enough good mechanics.
Why a $100 deductible on I assume a new truck warranty work.

I am assuming since the basic 3/36 warranty is over time wise that there would have been the deductible, the truck does have an extended warranty.

Tis why I carry a good scan tool under rear seat of my truck... I can read and clear issues that come up while on the road. For example.. a little bit of moisture on the MAP sensor on a Duramax will put engine into limp mode..25 mph max speed... clear error in 10 seconds. Out of limp mode...
Pulled sensor out..1 10mm bolt and 10 seconds to wipe off oil residue on sensor and reinstall...
Last time my 2007 was at dealership was in 2007 when I bought it. If I had issues that I couldn’t fix myself I’d go anywhere but a dealership.

I agree. I carry a blue driver OBD plug in and app to read codes and clear if needed. Also, it’s a great community where ones post at the fixes they did and it gives you an idea where to start. I’ve replaced a few easy to get to Emission sensors

I have this USB<> OBDII adapter and use FORscan, which is an amazing program, not only can you read/clear codes, but you can actually change the programming of various modules in your Ford car/truck.
I plan to use it to kill the seat-belt minder chime and reset the BMS, now that I have replaced the battery, among other things.

I have the connector and Forscan too. With the speadsheet for my year and model, I have made some pretty cool “adjustments”.

My 2016 did the same thing so I took it to the dealer to have it checked under warranty. They said it was a normal TSB and they reflashed the computer, my fuel mileage went from 17mpg down to 14-15 mpg. So at next scheduled maintenance I asked about it and was told I was crazy, that couldn't happen. I am thinking about a tuner to get my mileage back.

Brian,
That looks like a pretty nice system wonder if I can install the Operator Commanded Regeneration (Exhaust filter cleaning) with FORscan

I'm am not sure why you would have to pay a deductible for a service that was covered under your B to B warranty. All you had to tell them that you need a rental and they would have gotten right on it I bet. Wow $100 deductible ya that extended warranty is a real hoot. That is the reason I didn't get it for my truck. H dad it on my 12 SHO and learned a valuable lesson. It's funny you pay thousands and some people think it kicks in after the 3/36 but no. it starts the in service date of the truck. It's like paying twice.

There is a ton of forscan info on the various truck forums.
This spreadsheet is for 2016 and earlier superdutys.
This spreadsheet is for 2017+ superdutys.
There is a ton of information on youtube as well.

You can order it on the XL’s. I built one a couple of weeks ago just to see what was available. The only thing I noticed not offered were leather seats.
