Solar Prep Plug

We got our new camper and are really pleased it comes with a solar prep plug on it. Does anyone know where we can find the plug to plug into the camper??

The plug should come with the solar panel. Some brands are proprietary and I would use an ohm meter on the trailer side to verify that you don't hook up the panel(s) wrong ( reverse polarity).

The plug on the rv is probably near the battery attached to the frame.

I know where the plug is.. i was just wondering if i needed to order a special plug to plug into the prep port on the camper or if the solar panel would come with one.

We attended an RV show this past weekend. We saw many of the Keystone products prewired with this type connector: https://www.amazon.com/ZAMP-SOLAR-ZS...a-619904387204
If you are planning to use a portable, suitcase type solar kit like the Zamp 140 watt (shown) then it will come with the connector and controller.
A picture of the connector on your TT will help us determine which type you have. Also whether you are looking at a portable or roof top solar system will help us with your questions as well.

That is the system that I have which was an option from the dealer. The Zamp cover is cheezy. It has a molded attachment to its base and it broke in a short time. Also, mine looks like it has two females instead of a male and female prong. This makes it difficult to remember how to correctly plug it in.

If you go with a portable unit, make sure to secure it on windy days. Both my kids have had theirs blown over in a wind gust and broke the glass.

Solar Plug

The type of plug depends on the type of outlet that is installed on your TT. It appears that there are at least a few different types.

I have a 2019 Cougar that is pre-wired for a Furrion plug. Based on other posting on these forums, I was able to find a plug that I think is going to work on my Furrion setup (although I haven't been able to try it yet).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Of course, if you buy a Furrion Panel/Controller, it will already come with the Furrion Compatable plug...but that brand is a bit more expensive.

Did a little more research.. our unit has the S plug built in. And a majority of the panel manufactors include a S plug with their panels.

have you bought a solar charging kit? not to hijack the thread, I'm just not up to date on the info, what are you getting? is there a specific 'watt' you want to get or avoid?

keep us posted, this is very interesting

We bought a Coleman 100 watt with controller, about 27"x40". It fits well under the bed, even with the other stiff we have stored in there. I had to order the plug from Amazon and solder it on. Unfortunately it doesn't stay in very well when plugged into the receptacle on the trailer, I may end up getting alligator clips/longer cables and going directly to the batteries next summer.
