My apologies for not being more accurate with my dates. That's why I stated it as "only came about last year" I didn't realize someone would be counting days and weeks on a post. At any rate, the implementation date doesn't change the lack of any reserve capacity for almost every trailer produced prior to that time. It's been a problem since Keystone's inception in 1996 (don't check the date, I already confirmed it)

The RVIA decision to go to 110% is a very welcome change. I, and many others, were/are subject to tires that were inadequate for the load carried. That has contributed, in my mind, to tire failures in the past, and may in the future.

While looking at RVs the last few days I will note that the current trailers coming out seem to have tires that adhere to those standards. Oddly, the axle equation seems to still be an anomaly. Looking at 5vrs in the 12,500 range I found tires rated at 3540? (from memory) but axles rated at 5200??? To me, it doesn't make sense and still leaves a weak spot, just like the tires were before. Something potential buyers just need to look over. Buying a trailer with a 10k gvw might make the 5200lb. axles work. One rated at 12k and beyond with the same axle is a red flag to me. JMO/YMMV

John you’ve been known to correct others here so I figure I should be entitled to the same liberty.

Anyway, I agree with your statement about the lack of reserve capacity prior to RVIA implementing that requirement. We can only hope that it will reduce the frequency of complaints about “China Bomb” tires installed by the factories.
