trade or no trade

As I posted before I'm looking to upgrade to a 5'er and a 3500 dually, and
where I buy my wife's suv's from and my '16 GMC 2500 CC from, he has a 2015 CC Dually Denali on the lot with 10k miles on it, now my truck as 8200 on it. Since we're going to upgrade our TT or a 5'er in a year or so, I'm thinking of trading in my '16 for this '15 Denalli dually crew cab. It would be pretty much a "swap" per say.

Would this be worth the trade or should I go buy a new 3500 dually at 62-70k pending on dealer?

If the DW is good with it and you can afford it then why not? Just don't blame us if something goes wrong. Without seeing numbers it sounds like a reasonable deal.

Don't know where you are but sales tax could be a big number on a sale over a trade. .... Just something to consider.

Okay, noticed you are in Connecticut, That's 6.35% on 70K.

Years ago when I was an auto sales person, rule was take in trade under wholesale and sell used at retail.

Don't be surprised if you find its not a "swap", but you will still owe on the older truck. Would I do it? I don't honestly know.

That's still the rule today. One thing you have going for you is the fact that you have a 2500 which is more popular and sells easier than a 3500 dually. I did a similar swap in 2014 when I traded my 2500 LT Silverado for a 3500 LTZ dually. I watched the dually as it sat on the lot for 2 months. I attempted unsuccessfully a couple times to make a deal. Finally the dealership saw things my way and made a deal. I paid $2k difference for a truck that booked at $7k more. Of course, just as I predicted, the 2500 sold off of their lot I less than a week. My advice, don't get in a hurry, let the days build up on that 3500 and use the fact that you have a truck with a much greater market size to your advantage. Is it possible that someone else may come along and buy the 3500, yes, but worth the risk IMO. And yes, you will save a lot on sales tax buy trading. That alone is worth a couple thousand.

If it actually is a "swap" or close then it is a no-brainer. Just look close. In Tennessee we are charged the sales tax on the difference that you actually pay. I suppose in some states where residents are taxed to death they charge you on the price of the new truck. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

when I bought my dually this year I tried to find a 1 year old used one, in the end the finance rate and incentives made a brand new one cheaper.

Yes, the dealer sold my experienced 3/4 ton in 4 days! I would say in Ma Duallys aren't a big seller especially if fully loaded.

I'm seeing the same there here in CT. I went to a dealers site and then visited them in January and he had 3 dually's posted on his lot. Today I went to the dealers site and those 3 trucks are still listed on their site and on their lot. A 3500 in general let alone a dually aren't big sellers. So I'm going there this weekend to see if he's ready to deal on one.

I may be able to get a new one for the same price maybe cheaper then a used one

the dodge I looked at was a very nice truck, window was $73k they were down to $60k, it has been on their lot since feb. I bought my truck from prime ford in auburn ma, they had 6 duallys at the time, 4 lariats, 1 king ranch and my platinum. I know they still have the king ranch, I think the issue with them is they ordered those trucks with every option. My sticker was over $74k I paid $60k, they gave me $30k for my trade which I owned. The trade was where dodge fell short, but I couldn't even find a GMC Denali dually so I couldn't get a good price.

Looked at used for a while, best I could find was a 2012 f450 lariat which they wanted $52k for, this was what pushed me to new.

Traded my 2016 F250 XLT 4x4 with 18,912 miles on it for a 2016 F350 SWD 4x4. Dealer gave me high trade in plus $1500. The F350 with DAV partnership was -$5300, veterans discount -$1000, rebate -$4750 and the dealership tossed in a little more. Loan amount on the 350 was lower than the 250 and went from an xlt to Lariat too.
