So I am asking would you be happy with this tire on you're camper

My wife found this on the camper as we arrived at the campsite. These picture were taken after the tire cooled down. None of the other tire look or have this problem or that I see. What would you do? [ATTACH][/ATTACH]

Maybe it's because it's been a hectic week for me, but I'm not seeing any issue in the first picture. The second shows a "crease" line from rim to tread, is that what your talking about?

Okay look at these. The tire guy told me it was just where the two belts come together and it just a extremely heavy bonding point. My problem was the joint if you will looks different now when the tire cooled down. I unfortunately do not have pictures at that time It was more pronounced then after the tire cooled down. I have been told that is impossible. [ATTACH][/ATTACH]

Reason I don't like it was it balanced poorly took a lot of weight it looks different then the other three and running down the road it always ran 10 degrees hotter then any other tire did. Would run about 105 degrees at 90 psi while others were running around 85 to 88 psi and around 80 to 90 degrees.

I've seen it numerous times, haven't seen a failure that can be traced to that.
Can't say I've ever seen it "pronounced", I would surely take a picture after a drive if it does it again.

Maybe I'm just being a little over cautious.. I've seen what these can do if the blow out and I'm okay without living that nightmare. Cost me $127 maybe if my tire warranty doesn't agree with me. But it a small price to me for piece of mine.

Well I wasn't sure it changed either so I ask my wife if she thought it looked the same and she verified that it had changed. Yeah I'm not arguing with her either.

FWIW I have over the years had trailer tires with that crease line and not had any issues. But I also can't say that I inspect them at the end of a drive, too focused on getting 3 cats from the truck to the trailer.

Yep, that is the correct answer. Now for the rest of the story....

You have a 2012 Cougar, depending on build date, that tire is 3-4 years old. Add to that, it is a Towmax which many have had problems with. The fact that it is running a bit hotter than the other tires could be because of the location and the weight distribution, it could be carrying more weight. It takes more weight to balance it......add all of that together, IMO, = time for new tires. Like you said, much cheaper than repairs that could result from a failure and, based on trailer tire expectancy/deterioration, you are due for new tires within a year anyway.

I'd replace that tire ASAP. Don't look good and nothing good will come from it.

My Outback came with Towmax. I ran them for around 2K miles and then started reading about the problems with them. I went to Discount tire and had them order me a set of Maxxix 10 ply tires. They are still ST tires and made somewhere in Asia, but not China. I figured a set of tires was cheaper than losing a trailer. Shame on Keystone for using these cheap Chinese Maypops.

Maybe yes maybe no. It's all about money and staying competitive at the same time. Keystone could buy better (more expensive) tires and pass the cost on to the consumer. When you buy in the quantity that an RV manufacturer does, each dollar is magnified exponential. I dare say pretty much every sales person selling RVs doesn't know squat about tire brands and if the customer is looking at the same floor plans of different brands, even that small price difference may mean a sale or not.

If you like taking chances...go ahead and run those TowMax tires! I took that chance....had a blow-out and "only" $1300. of damage! Not to mention, off the side of a busy freeway to change it! Oh did I mention the three weeks wait for parts and repair?

I just went ahead and replaced it. New tire looks and balanced very well. Camper is going into storage so during the winter months I research what's out there and maybe do something next year. Like I said spending $127.00 dollars was not worth worrying about.
