2014 Ram 3500 DRW

While I am not in the market for a new truck I came across a fantastic deal on a 2014 Ram 3500 DRW truck. Test drove it and liked it. Wife and I have been talking about looking for a DRW to give more capacity for our current 5 wheel.

A few concerns I have is with leveling out the trailer with the Ram. The Ram appears to sit 4-6 inches taller then my GMC. I know I can adjust the hitch and King-pin but just want some input if any one had problems with the height of the Rams. I know I will have to buy a new hitch to fit the factory 5 wheel prep on the Ram but want to avoid having to buy extended king pins or anything else. The new truck has the 8 foot bed. Other concerns are just with switching to a Ram. Does anyone have any concerns with the 2014 Rams or know of any issues they are having? The truck is listed well below blue book and has beat the dealer for a few months and they are jut trying to get rid of it now. It only has 9,000 miles on it.

Thanks for the input.

I have the SRW version 3500. Mine came with 20" tires which concerned me about the height vs my prior truck with 17" tires. I used the factory puck system with the B&W hitch. I have had no problems with leveling the truck and trailer. Hopes this helps some!!

Just a 3/4 ton, but sitting on 20"s and 34"s I think it sits fairly level. Hitch is an Anderson Aluminum and the ball is in the middle hole. 7" of rail clearance.

Reese also makes an adapter that will hook to the factory puck system and then you can mount any rail mounted hitch to that. It's a cheaper alternative then to buying a whole new hitch.

I have SRW 2015 Ram 3500 (Aisin transmission) with 8ft box. I also have the factory puck system and use the B&W 3600 - ordered it from Amazon for a whole lot less that I could get it anywhere else. My setup before was with a 2005 Dodge 2500 with a Reese 16k hitch. With the new setup, I placed the B&W dead center over the rear axle as recommended by my RV dealership (B&W would not say exactly where to place it in the bed, possibly for liability purposes?). I mounted the uprights in the hitch, that the kingpin plate sits on) in the middle mounting holes. My fifth wheel rides dead level according to my 4ft level although it looks like its riding nose high. In my previous truck, I only had about 5 inches of bed rail clearance, now I have 6-8 roughly (I haven't measured). I doubt you will have a problem with how your unit rides because there is the ability to adjust things around. If the dually has a CTD, you will be mightily impressed with the truck and the hitch system. The SRW version is only available with the 3.42 rear end and even in super steep mountain terrain (Alamogordo to Cloudcroft, NM) I had zero issues. The DRW CTD comes in all 3 rear end flavors: 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10. If it is a really good deal you are looking at , I doubt you will regret it.

Same here. 31k mikes on my 2014 and no issues aside from a code flash that dealer had to update the ecm and my tires are wearing quicker than I would like

I have a 2013 DRW 8' bed and the Mopar hitch package. I worked at the dealer so it was cheaper and easier. Get them to work on the price and work it into the price of the truck. One stop shopping and you are done.

I have mine set in the middle set of holes and ride very level with my 338DB.

This is the first day I picked up the new trailer.

Thank for the helpful information. Heading over to dealership this evening to see what we can work out. I'll post pictures if it all works out.
