What are they called?

I'm looking for the gadget that has a ball on two extendable rods with magnetic bases. One goes on the hitch, the other on the trailer coupler. You back up and when the balls touch, you are under the hitch. I've scoured every catalog I have, and I can't find it. Help, anyone?

There's several names, but hitch guides seems to be common. Reese calls them "Hitchin' Rods" http://www.reese-hitches-online.com/hitchin_rods.htm

Search on magnetic hitch guides for lots more choices.

Thanks.. I just found them at etrailer.com. Reese makes them. $20, a heck of a lot cheaper than a backup camera.

Steve,
I just looked up Northville, NY. My wife is from Glens Falls and she has a brother living in Saratoga Springs. I got to go up there one year between Christmas and New Years. She took me all over the place including Lake Placid. What gorgeous country.. I'm jealous.

Small world, Bob! If ever you folks get up this way, give us a shout. I am always looking for excuses to take the trailer out.

Our game plan was to retire to the Adirondacks. Amazingly, it all worked out pretty well.

Break down and by the camera. You will be under the hitch everytime. I used the ball method and you have put them on take them off figure a place to store them and finally one of the rods broke during storage. Also you have get them in the same spot everytime. Just my 2c jay

I have a set and they work well when, both, the TT and the truck are level. They are useless in my driveway. It slants to one side so I have to level the TT. When backing up the truck, it isn't level so they won't match up.

Marriage Savers

I bought mine at a Tractor Supply store. I have also seen them at Camping World. They are two lime green rods with red tips. One is put on the trailer ball and the other is placed on the hitch. As you back up you align the rods and continue to back up until the rod on the hitch ball falls off. The trailer and your tow vehicle are now lined up to finish hitching. My wife and I refer to them as "Marriage Savers".
