gas alarm

Pulled the trailer out of our spot on our property where it is hooked up to shore power. My sister is coming today with hubby and they are going to park there for awhile while visit.

Turned off all 12V stuff and had the refrigerator off and door open with the door open light taped where it isn't lit. Pulled out the night lights... in any case, my propane/gas buzzer was going off. Pulled the fuse. Battery seemed down a bit so I put it on a charger.

Will the propane gas alarm go off if the battery is discharging; did not check the voltage as my sister will be here in a very short while and I am getting other things ready. Had to re-hook up water and such as we have seen some freezing temps at night.

The LP alarm will “chirp” with low battery voltage. Depending on brand, 11.3V is the threshold.

Figured... my alarm was not a chirp but a constant buzz... 2002 trailer so not sure what type alarm it is... can't really read what is on it without reading glasses which I didn't have. Not sure why the battery discharged to that point as I don't think I have much 12V connected except the alarm. Arm that turns on light in fridge was taped so light wouldn't come on; can't think of anything else that would pull DC. Oh year, battery less than 3 months old and it is a decent battery quality wise.

Ive seen propane alarms do strange things. I wonder what the "end of life" date is. Take it out and there should be a date on the back side, 84 months IIRC is the limit.

If the propane alarm chirps, it might be at it’s limit of life. They only last about 5 years. Life can be shorter if they have ever alarmed at a propane leak previously.

^^^^Look at the shelf life of the unit. It's probably due for replacement. Mine did that and drove me crazy because when I pulled it and put it back it stopped for a while....then started again. A new one fixed it.
