Rv outlet issues

The gfci outlet in my bathroom was tripped when I woke up. I pushed the reset button, but it would not stay in. I bought and replaced the outlet (actually, my brother did the work), but it still isn't working. He checked the other outlets to see if he could figure out why it wasn't working. He's saying the outlet in the kitchen is bad. But, if the button isn't popped in, there would be no power to that outlet, right? How do I figure out what is wrong?

If a downstream outlet is bad it could be tripping the GFCI immediately. Pretty easy to replace the suspect one and see if you can then reset the GFCI. Otherwise the GFCI won't reset it it doesn't have power so confirm there is power to the GFCI as well.

I would disconnect the “load” side from the gfi outlet. Then turn the power back on and see if it will reset. If it does, then the issue is an outlet AFTER the gfi. If it doesn’t then the issue is either that gfi or wiring to it.
Make sure he is very careful not to get zapped, I would turn the power off before removing or reattaching any wires.

If your brother connected the wires to the wrong side of the GFI it would have the same effect. I.e. if he connected to load wires to the line side and the line wires to the load side.

If I recall the plug will have the load and line sides labeled on the back.....

Thank you all so much. I got curious right before bed and tried the test button again. Apparently, he didn't do that. It works. Haven't checked the kitchen outlet, but I'm thinking it should work too. Thank you so much for your answers!

LOL Gotta do that last step or it is still "broke"...

Sort of like repairing a flat tire but not putting air in it....

I just had the same issue on all my outside receptacles on my house. My outside GCFI would not reset so I went to the plug I suspected most likely of having failed, replaced it with a new outlet, tested it, nada. I then moved down the line, installing the previously removed plug in the next outlet, all the way through them all. Nada. I had hesitated on replacing the GCFI because it was behind some bushes and hard to access. After replacing all the outlets with no success, I got a new GCFI and bubble cover and swapped it out. There ended up being space between the shrubs and house wall for me to sit without being bothered or having to cut limbs, I just had to contort myself back there once. Of course the GCFI had gone bad and all the outlets work perfectly now.

On many model GFCI receptacles, the reset button won't take unless there is power going to the socket. You have to reconnect shore power first, then press it.
