wouldn’t want to go over a bridge in windy conditions with that on the back

I agree, looks very very unstable. Not sure why, guess the winds we get around here make me think of that right off. I don't know, just looks like everything is about to break!!!!

I’ve got a few photos of it somewhere that I’ve had our DD take as we’ve passed it headed south on I-35, usually around Stacy or Forest Lake, MN. The first time I saw it I could not figure out what the heck it was when coming up behind it. The next time, I just shook my head at how it was still in one piece driving down the road.

It does not look like a 550 to me. A 550 would have 10 lugs per wheel and different size wheels and rims than a 350. Can anyone confirm it being a 550?
Looks more like a 350 or 450 to me?

A side shot shows the badge but I couldn't make out what it read. The badges look like those on my 2006 F350. Here is a F550 that was sold but still online and looks very similar:

I paused and took a screenshot, then zoomed in on the badge. It definitely says F550. The hub covers hide the number of lugs, but the wheels themselves appear to align with the F550. Hopefully those over-cab front bumper area attachment points will prevent the frame from snapping in half like the guy with his Ram 3500 had happen. I have to believe that this setup weighs at least 7,000 - 8,000 lbs

the front end looks like a f350…the 450 has a wider front end and i guess the 550 would as well? people used to change the badging on old camaros and chevelles to make them SS super sports instead of just regular models …could be the guy just swapped the badging as he seems to make up the rules as he goes along….added air bags and …voila! i have a f550 lol

i wonder if the rear of the camper has wheels under it?…looks like it would definitely drag going up a steep incline

I guess it's clever and innovative but, what's the point? It doesn't appear that you can drop this thing at a campsite and still have access to your truck. If that's the case why risk the engineering dangers of this set up rather than buy a regular MH?

A lot of rear overhang past the rear axle, can’t imagine it is at all stable driving down the road.

Sometimes folks just have a need to be creative, to do something different, to build, to leave some kind of a mark on the world.

This truck camper set-up reminds me of those folks who take their, really nice car or truck and turn it into a carnival show.... you know, jack it up 6 feet in the air, oversized wide tires, loud mufflers, massive speakers, train horns, wild bizarre paint colors throwing flame, or just he opposite, dropping the suspension and making them low to the ground (which looks just as stupid).

But they are being creative, satisfying an inner desire to be a kid again in an adult body and build something with their tinker-toys.

No doubt, the person who designed and built that camper did some pretty creative engineering, design, and building.

Face it ... deep down inside .... really .... deep down inside .... aren't we all just a bit envious that we didn't think of this ourselves, have the money, time, tools, and skills to do it too?

Not in the slightest. I would use my money for something viable, better looking, more practical and....safe. On the other hand I could give it to my investment guy and tell him to lose it for me - that would have the same result for me. I am creative in many ways but have no need to create a monstrosity at this age.....I did that with my first treehouse at about 9 years old.

Wasn't that camper in "Road Warrior" with Mel Gibson? I could see hitting a speed bump too fast and having half drop off in front of me and half fall off the rear.

Unlike Danny, I invest my funds in BBQ and not with some investment guy. In fact, I am going to shower and head over to Hondo to Heavy's BBQ (great great BBQ) right now and will keep an eye out for that home made truck camper so I don't get bonked by anything falling off. I wonder how often that owner gets pulled over... did see a tag well hidden in the back but hard to believe even Texas would let that thing on the road.

A big plate of brisket and sausage sounds good right now. The mods that had to be done to keep that thing from breaking in half probably exceed the payload of that truck by themselves. Had one "shop" built slide in cabover camper (long bed) and that thing was monstrously heavy, I can't start to imagine what that thing weighs. Just looking at that tag looks like it's Minnesota (get to see lots of them here in FL). I couldn't pause and zoom as Rob did to make sure. Enjoy that BBQ, guess I'll fry me up some pork chops for something to do since DW's gone to DD's.

Proof that it really can go down the road. These are from June 2021 on I-35 near Forest Lake, MN. I believe I saw a post on a camping forum a month or so later of this camper down in Florida somewhere. I was impressed with how far they take it, and would absolutely love to see the interior since I’m always curious.

i wonder if it’s 10,000 degrees inside?…it reminds me of a heating oil delivery truck…don’t see a air conditioner on it anywhere..unless it’s a minisplit hidden in the drivers side rear container

the guy must keep adding on as the generator is a new addition..not shown in the pictures from lynette

Wow...this guy couldn't afford a class A so he turned a pickup into one. lol
The box hanging out the front must be a counter weight for the rear overhang. lol again
