Will the slide work without a battery? Probably, as long as you have shore power available.
BUT:
If you don't want to risk burning up the converter (which is not capable of providing the high amp startup load) yes, you'll need a battery. There's also a RED warning decal next to the slide switches warning that a battery is required to operate the slides...
IMO, it wouldn't give a buyer a "good feeling about past use" to see that decal, realize you're ignoring it and telling them the trailer is "well cared for"....
