Drip, drip, drip!

Well, the other night it rained, hard, on day 233 of our trip -- and, as we were quietly reading, I heard a drip --- drip, drip. Upon investigation I found a wet spot at the left (port side) rear corner of the trailer. It was also running down the wall.

Next day we got home and I investigated. Unfortunately, we apparently had an unknown encounter with a low branch and the rubber roof was torn at the corner for a length of 8 feet or so.

Long story short, trip to CW and a roll of the sticky EPDM tape. I made temporary repairs, however, just how permanent is this? Do I need a new roof? If so how much does this cost. I suppose that my $1,000'deductable should cover this (whatever is over $1K)

Who has experience in this area? What is my next step?

Now home after 233 days and a 28,328 trip, whew!!!

John

Wow, 8 feet long... ouch. But from what I've read properly installed Eternabond/etc. tape is considered a permanent fix (will need to be inspected from time to time of course.) A new roof is going to be expensive but if your insurance is good maybe you will only be out a grand if you go that way.

When we had trouble with our roof on a trip it was going to run over $3,000.00 to replace the roof. The tape should do a good job at sealing up the tear but the one thing I would watch for is the rubber roof lifting up and coming loose from the plywood around the repair.

The Eternabond tape can be a permanent fix. To be sure, seal the edges of the tape with the self-leveling Dicor caulk.

The edges of the roof and outside walls of my slides are capped with Eternabond straight from the factory.

I believe that Dicor offers an adhesive for just that purpose.

Yes they do but it is designed to bond with the wood and if there is adhesive already on the wood it wont bond (learned this first hand).
