Thermostat and/or furnace problem.

Got a new issue in my heating system. Worst part about is that it is not consistent.

With the thermostat set on 68 (or any temperature), I have seen the furnace not come on as the temperature drops below the setting by 1 or several degrees (tonight it was set on 69 and the temp was down to 66). The odd part is that turning the system completely off and back on makes the furnace come on again.

Any one else have this or have any ideas?

What if you manually up the thermostat setting, like to 75? How about if you switch it to Cool, then back to Heat? What is it that you’re completely turning off?

The thermostat would be my prime suspect. Is it the original one, or a neato digital one? If it’s the original, now’s the time to go for that upgrade you’ve always wanted.

Sounds like the anticipator is out of wack. Depending on what thermostat you have, you should be able to adjust it. Google your brand of stat and the manual for that stat should include instructions on how to adjust the heat anticipator.

I have the Dometic programmable thermostat that is standard in the Alpines and others and there is nothing adjustable in this thing of outside of the programming of time and temp

Thermostat

These units do not generally have an anitcipator in them (a small heater in the stat to minimize temperature overshoot).

They do offer a choice of temperature differential from turn off to turn on. On my Dometic it is 1 or 2 degree differential. Personally, I find that the 1 degree setting has the furnace or AC cycling too frequently.

I re-initialized it and set it to Dif2. We'll see if it make a difference.
