Because I always wear a baseball cap I'm constantly running into things that are above my view. I find it's easiest to put something big on the ground below the obstacle so that I have to walk around.

Funny you mention the hat!
Several years ago it became mandatory we wear a hard hat, I don't recall ever banging my head til I started wearing that hard hat then it seemed I was bumping it on everything.

Same problem! Never had a problem with the last trailer with the same exact awning. After putting up with it for a few days on the first trip and wondering why the door rubbed when the awning was full extended, I got the manual out and discovered 3 different part numbers for the hardware. Factory installed the hardware for a 5th wheel on my travel trailer. What they should’ve installed was the reduced pitch model. Goes to the dealer this Friday to get changed.

Yep, done it 2 times in 1 session. (Within 5 minutes of each other) I thought about the pool noodles and a "Remove Before Flight" lanyard, but didn't know how the noodles fit. I guess they fit since many people use them.

Curious where did you find the part numbers? My manual says, "various manufacturers..." essentially useless.

Awning arm

Funny this thread popped up today. While checking over the trailer this morning, came around the back and "BAM" right into the arm. I think I run into it at least once every setup.

Use one of those “noodles” that kids use in the pool. Get one in your favorite color, slice it down the center and wrap it around square stock. Take em off when traveling..... you can thank me later.....😜

5’10”
Door clears the fabric by 3 inches now and flap on the tube is way above my head. It was so low it would brush the top of my head before. The new kit installed is the low pitch version and what came off was called the basement model, the 5 er kit.

since we have a skyscraper 5th wheel the awning isn't a problem but with six slides and a pin box I have done my share of head banging. After six years of half timing I've just learned to walk around stooped over anytime I'm around the camper. CG neighbors come up to me and ask how my bad back is doing.

I have to be honest, reading this thread before we went camping for the first time with the new trailer, I thought; seriously? How big of an issue can this be? I have never had this issue. Well, it turns out that I never had an issue with my old-school Carefree of Colorado manual awning, but now this new Solera power awning is a different story. Banged my head three times, got a series of lumps and one good cut on my scalp. It’s pool noodle time for me now!

Wear a bike helmet when working around the trailer?

Same w/ wife and I. I used to consider myself of at least having an average ability to learn from painful mistakes, but apparently I do not.
