Re-arranging slide furniture

I've looked at several posts about similar issues but would still like some feed back on this-
I have 2017 Keystone Sprinter 5th wheel 269FWRLS, in one slide there is currently a small tri-fold sofa at one end and a freestanding dinette table and 4 chairs at the other end. In the rear of our unit, not in a slide are 2 small recliners. While on a recent vacation we saw the same unit where they had moved the sofa to the middle of the slide and put one of the recliners at each end to balance it out. They moved the freestanding dinette and chairs to the end of the unit, not in a slide.

My concern is the slide handling the additional weight sliding in and out which I estimate at maybe 100 extra pounds? I asked Keystone the same question and they were no help at all, just said it would void any warranty!

I also thought of the potential of weight when the slide is out originally had 3 people on the sofa and 4 in the chairs which maybe 7 X 200=1400. New positions would be maybe 3 on the sofa a 1 in each of the recliners which maybe 5 X 200 =1000 pounds.

Seems to be a better deal, any good thoughts would be appreciated?

TJ, not sure if the warranty is really an issue. The one year Keystone warranty has passed. The component manufacturers usually have longer 2 to possibly 3 year warranties. You'd have to look at the warranties for those components.

Moving the furniture into a configuration that pleases you is a personal decision. As long as you are not moving hundreds of pounds as to affect the balance of the trailer, you should be fine.

As covered in the slide manual, don't be in the slide out while it is moving. You should be fine with your plans.

Welcome to the forum

I don't see where 100 ponds is going to throw things off.

Thanks CT and Chuckster-

I thought the same myself that it shouldn't be a real big issue for a hundred pounds or so. I also like the idea of having the table and 4 chairs in the back with the big window to look out from. It seems to me also that the slide would be better balanced with the sofa in the middle and a recliner on each end, don't know why the factory didn't see it that way from the beginning!

thanks for the welcome,
TJ

This is our second fiver with a freestanding dinette. We took out the freestanding dinette and with just the wife and I we are fine with just using tv trays to eat on. We found that removing the dinette gave us a lot more room, something to think about if you don't need the dinette.

if you are concerned you can put a support jack and beam under the slide I have seen that on a big unit

Not recommended. In the “old” days when you had to physically pull the slide out, a support jack was ok. Any slide that moves “on its own” with a button or switch will have all the needed support in the slide mechanism. Damage could occur if you have jack(s) under the slide and the trailer starts to settle.

We got rid of all of the recliners and trifold couch, we sold off the recliners and moved the trifold to our basement and went shopping at Ikea for the chairs and a hideaway bed as the air matress that the came with the trailer was a bit of a pia for us.

With the sale of the recliners and replacement of the couch we have dropped a few hundred lbs from the trailer, the Ikea chairs are actually quite comfortable and the hideaway bed is always made and ready to sleep!
