Fix for gas prop bracket pulling off storage door

I was not around when the bracket got pulled off the door so I don't know if the prop hung up on something or the screws just pulled out.

However I am hoping my way of fixing it is over kill and it does not happen again. I used 2 pieces of 1 1/2" wide x 1/8 thick alum. flat stock. Put many screws threw them into the door. I drilled all the holes in the alum pieces first. The screws holding on the gas prop bracket actually tighten up on the holes I drilled into the alum. flat stock.

I think I’ve spotted a weak spot. It looks like you’re missing one screw near the right. Because of that, it’s probably down to 887% overkill.

If I was going to do it, I’d flip the brackets around so they’re surrounded by the aluminum plates and screws going into the door. However, the seventeen screws you have on and around the plate should be enough.

I like the diamond mat flooring. Is that standard? My TT, probably like most others, is the same linoleum as the interior and isn’t that rugged.

That floor is standard. At least that's what I have in my basement as well.

Yeah, the floor is standard.

The one screw that looks like it is missing is the same color as the alum. Ran our of white screws.

I guess you thought a fifty-pack of white screws would be enough.

I see that your gas struts are mounted with the gassy end down. When installing a strut for my under-bed storage, the RV shop told me that gas struts should be installed gassy end up so it’ll hold a charge longer.

Now, that sounds suspicious to me. With the amount of pressure in there, I didn’t think it’d matter how it was installed. Anybody hear of such a thing? I checked my TV and all my struts are mounted gassy end up.

struts

I have always been told that the gas side should face up.
reason is the fluid on the inside will keep the seal wet and will last longer.

Ok. I had to go look at the side I hadn't touched. It appears I put the opposite from the way they were originally.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll be changing them around.

Rlevitt, that makes sense. And after some thought, I should call the "gassy part" a "cartridge" instead. I think that's the proper term.
