Solar Panel

So we have a springdale with a solar panel on top. What exactly does this panel do? If it puts a charge to the battery does the battery switch have to be on? Would it be similar to a trickle charge?

That's pretty much the whole of it, yes.

If the battery switch needs to be on to get a charge is there any issue with leaving the switch on all the time when not in use.

I do not believe the battery (disconnect) needs to be 'on' in order for charging to occur. Others may chime in, but it is not required on my trailer.

Turn your battery 'off' and take a look at the charge controller to verify.

You are correct markcee. My 5ther has the giggle box and when it is turned to the off position, my solar controller will still charge the battery.

There should be a controller between the panel and the battery. All that I'm familiar with will indicate (led light or bluetooth) that the solar is generating energy and the battery state.

These should NOT be affected by a battery shutoff although you could put a shutoff to the solar or wire it through a shutoff.
