adding cargo door lock

our 18' Hideout 28BHS has an outdoor kitchen on it. The door to it only has 1 thumb latch and 1 lock on it. I'm wanting to move the lock to the middle and add a 2nd thumb latch to the side so it can be better latched down. I already bought a new thumb latch to install and am going to drill a hole in the center to move the keyed latch to center. The problem I'm running into is finding the black plastic insert that goes into the hole. Here is a picture of the keyed lock and plastic insert I'm talking about. Any ideas as to where I can find one of these inserts?

thanks, I checked out that website but still didn't come up with that part. I see a rubber gasket, which I have, but not the actual insert piece that I still need. I guess I don't absolutely have to have them, but would like to have it for added support in the holes. I got some washers that are the same outside diamter of the pieces, I just have to trim the inner diameter of them to accept the lock mechanism. That will help the locks from pulling through the holes; about as best as I could come up with for now.

Sonders, You can buy a new baggage door lock assembly from the site Jim listed above. Chances are that it will be keyed to the CH 751 standard key and will have all the parts needed. Looks like about $12.00. Good luck with your repair.

it looks like they just have a rubber gasket and a washer, which is the same kits I'm finding at the local rv dealers in my area as well. I'm thinking that the insert piece I'm wanting must be considered part of the baggage door itself, in which case I'm also coming up empty handed on. Only options I see on baggage doors is buy complete door assembly, or replacement latches; those are the only parts I can find when searching baggage doors.

would be a great time to know somebody with a 3d printer. I'm sure they could make a few of them for me real quick.

The lock replacements on that site look like they have a tiny set of wings that might flip out to stabilize—doesn’t look that great, but maybe that’s the new way. I wonder if you could find a junked RV at a salvage yard and scavenge the part you need.

I was thinking about that as well, but not having any luck finding any rv salvage yards around.

I wouldn't worry about it. If anything, it looks to me like the sleeve in the picture would have just as much a chance of holding moisture between it and the core of the hatch as it would protect it. The website rvlocksandmore.com offer the locks in many depths and you can order it with a key set to match your entry door. I changed all the locks on our unit so only 1 key is required to open any door of hatch.

it's looking like I'll be going without them as I'm not finding them anywhere. I already cut out some rubber gaskets to go on both sides of the doors to hopefully keep water out. I'm going to trim out the inner diameter of some washers I picked up the other day that can slip over the latches to go on outside and inside as well to help support them.

The goal is to have a thumb latch on both sides of the doors and the locking latch in the center. They currently all have locking latch on one side and thumb latch on the other. I hate having to keep the locking latches locked all the time when the camper is parked at home or even while camping. If they aren't locked then the doors stick out quite a bit on that edge allowing weather in. Hope that makes sense.

I'm not needing any locks, I'm reusing the ones already on the trailer. I just needed 2 more thumb latches, which I already purchased locally. I was just wanting to get the black inserts to go in the holes I drilled into the door panels. I've not been able to find any, so I just cut a piece of thin rubber I had laying around the garage to make an outer grommet, then I got some washers that were same outer diameter and ground the inner diameter larger so that the barrel of the latches would slide inside them. I used the washers on the backside of the door panel, followed by the nut that came with the latches. Should be good enough.

Although I have bought them on Amazon. I am pleased with the replacements that I got from rvlock.com. I ordered them and had them common keyed to the locks that I put on my trailer.

I know you've already finished your project, and I'm not sure if the FJM Finger Pull will do what you are (were) looking for or not. You can check them out at this link: https://www.fjmsecurity.com/Cam-Lock-Accessories.php They are the black plastic "finger pulls" on the second row of the first part of the page.

I actually just finished last night thanks to
Code:
Oilfan97
and his 3D printing skills. I sent him one of my plastic inserts to use as a template and he was able to make me some more. So now all my thumb latches and locks have the exact same piece.

I do wish I would have seen your link sooner before I went to the trouble of grinding out centers of washers to fit the lock tumblers to go on the inside of the baggage doors. I see washers on that site that are already notched for the tumblers. Oh well, I'm only out my time spent grinding as I had washers laying around to use.

Have you, by chance, uploaded the 3D file to any of the common 3D printing file sharing sites? I ask as I've been looking for the same cam-lock insert part and haven't found any, same as the OP. While searching, I came upon this thread.

However, I do have a 3D printer, Prusa mini+, and could print it out. Just curious if you hosted the file anywhere or if you'd be willing to share it? Thank you.

BTW, very interested to see if this upcoming season will be McDavid/Draisaitl's year.
