This article illustrates one of the many calamities that can happen when traveling overloaded. As we hear many on this forum and others say "it's fine", "don't even know it's back there" etc. Many overload the trucks never caring to find out what kind of load they have or the capacity of the truck. Many complain about the "weight police", well, this is one of the reasons they try to point out overweight situations. Like this fellow found out, it's always "just fine....till it ain't". Thankfully it was just him driving slow on Mexican roads. Now when Mopar denies the claim (which they have) and the insurance denies the claim or cancels the policy....won't that be a fine pickle.

Chuck, Try this link.....
https://www.reddit.com/r/TruckCamper...tm_name=iossmf
There's another photo in that link, toward the bottom that shows the driver getting out of the truck. It's a "full unit view" and there's a motorcycle on a extended rack mounted to the rear of the camper body. So, not only was he carrying the "wet weight of the cab-over camper" but also the weight of a motorcycle stuck 2 or 3 feet behind the camper. Talk about "tail heavy".... Here's the link to that "revealing photo" .. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...1079661&type=3

It's amassing to me we don't see things like that more often. I see so many people in and out of the rv parks we stay that are obviously way over loaded one way or the other. And so many I talk to have no idea. I shutter at how many times people revere to their trailers "dry weight" and how they don't load it to much, or the manufactures hitch weight. I ask them if they weighed their tv and trailer and they just scuff and have no intention to ever do so. After all "ignorance is bliss."

Owner:
"I did a lot of research before buying the truck and the camper, and both the Ram dealer and the camper company where we bought it said it was the perfect truck," Pavel explained. "They said it should handle the load no problem. I knew the payload capacity on the truck was about 7,800 pounds and the camper dry weight was close to 5,000 pounds, but fully loaded, probably about 6,500 pounds."
Article writer:
"It's impossible to know the exact rating of Pavel's truck without having all the details regarding the trim and options, but Ram's spec sheet shows the payload capacity for a similar dually as maxing out at 4,190 pounds."
Why wouldn't the owner of the broken Ram just look at the payload placard in his door frame? Ram knew what his payload was rated to be and denied his warranty claim. The selling dealer didn't know about the truck's actual payload?

OW, both of those number are so far off!!
Ram diesel DRW payloads run about 5,000# to 5,600# depending on trim level. That camper was just too much for a 3500!

Why didn't the guy look at his payload sticker in the door frame? I think that is what Ram customer service is asking? How many times have we heard... "salesman told me" be it at the dealership or truck camper place?

Many people don't know, or want to know, how to determine the actual payload. They then go into denial about how that applies to their camper.

I looked up the camper to check the weight when this first came out and the add for the Eagle cap has it sitting on an F450.
For the record my TV has a payload of 5288.

I think you guys are missing something.....
If you go to the Dodge-Ram homepage you can see that their engineers came up with a brilliant idea of how to dump your black tank, easier.

Yep. That photo is of 51-1386, an F-84F, one of the first "swept wing F-84's". It was on display outside the Barksdale AFB Military Museum, but it wasn't there the last time I was in Shreveport. I asked about it and someone who should know (museum worker) told me that it had been moved to a different location and was no longer at Barksdale. He didn't tell me where it went.
Here's a page with more photos of that bird. http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/bi...f-84f_51-1386/
The USAF Thunderbirds were activated in 1953, and their first demonstration aircraft was the F-84 from 1953-1956. They started in the F-84G straight wing, then in 1955, transitioned to the swept wing F-84F, but 386 was never assigned to the Thunderbirds. In 1956, the Thunderbirds transitioned to the F-100 and also relocated to Nellis AFB, where there was better maintenance and logistics support already established for the F-100.
I know, TMI, but military airplanes are a passion.

Yep me too , huge fan. It’s funny as we had our grandkids this last weekend (ages 6-8) and we took them to the SAC museum. It’s here about 9 miles from our house. They were actually very intrigued and made it through the whole museum.
I have to say I was a little disappointed as the gift shop had a lot of blue angels aitems and not one Thunderbird item. I do love the Angels too but………
Anyway nice museum. If you haven’t seen it you should!

If you ever get a chance to come up this way, the Hill AFB Museum is excellent. Having grown up on Nellis AFB I bored my grandson nearly to death just reviewing the "Century" series fighters while we were there. Seems todays kids can't relate to the idea of "coke-bottle" engine configuration design
