Crooked Awning Blowing Fuse

Hello fellow RVers!

A while back my husband sideswiped a tree branch on a tight turn and it bent our fully retracted awning out of alignment. Despite the bent arms, for about a year we were still able to roll the awning in and out electronically- it wasn’t pretty but it worked.

Now, when we try to extend it, the 15A fuse blows. I’m assuming the motor is just now upset we’re repeatedly putting it under additional stress.

My question: is there any chance we can straighten the arms somehow (would that fix the overload issue)? Or should I just bite the (Keystone) Bullet and shell out for a new awning?

What would you do?

Signed,
A frugal, handy, but pregnant lady

Welcome to the forum

Sorry about your awning, but you can replace just the arms. What brand and model of awning?

Lippert is proud of their parts. Look on Amazon for the right ones nad then maybe consider a mobile mech for a cheaper labor rate.

See if you can find a mobile RV tech in New Braunfels or San Marcos. Trip charge should be minimal (the one I paid in FL was $75 for about the same distance). See if they can get the arms and put them on for you for a decent price. I figure there should be several in that area so get a couple of estimates so you can kind of gauge what the going rate should be.

Another consideration; have them check everything out thoroughly as they install the arms. Continuing to operate the awning repeatedly under stress with the arms bent could have also pulled mounting loose etc. Good luck. The heat's coming so the awning will probably come in handy...
