Best route lexington ky to mass

Good Morning, wondering if I should take routes I- 75, 71,76, 81, or I-64, 79, 68, 70, 81, 78. Would the second route be very mountainest?

raptor0818, Howdy;

The route with the least mountains would be your second choice listed.
I-64, 79, 68, 70, 81, 78. Any way you shave it you will go across mountains.
This route has fewer and not as abrupt (steep). Also I-64 south of Charlestown, WV. is a toll road and as you descend 1 mtn. your windshield
will be full of the next one. chucklin'. The mtns. going across the top of WV.
(I-68), are more spread out, still a bit steep but not jammed up close together.

Best of luck, beware of the idiots out there, more of them then of us.

The second route is much shorter (about 80 miles). I would avoid PA 76. It’s a toll road in PA, with limited access, limited food and fuel, several tunnels (so you are dealing with mountains). Either way you will have several mountains to navigate. The bigger question will be once you get into North Eastern PA, do you go over to 95 in NY /NJ and run along the coast or go up through the interior. Personally, I would go ip through the interior and stay off 95 as long as you can

Last time we made that trip, we had to optimize it for firearms possession: WV, PA, overnighting at Matamoras. Then we held our breath while we zipped up to Albany and over into Vermont before stopping for anything, including gas or food. E-W routes in VT are next to nonexistent, but it kept us legal. We camped in NH and "visited" Boston as necessary.

If you take 78, I like to take 287 north over toward CT and then the 684 connector to 84 through CT to MA. Hate 95 and the GW bridge....avoid it at all costs and is actually blocked out on my Garmin GPS.

The cost of tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike from I-70 (New Stanton) to I-81 (Carlisle) with an EZ-Pass is only $29.80 and $60.00 without (according to https://www.paturnpike.com/toll-calculator).

Humm,
I would go I=75 around Cincy, then I-71 around Columbus and up to I=90.
Take I-90 to Erie and pick up I-86.
I-86 to I-88 to I-90.
Small section of toil road but good roads all the way.
I-90 takes you in to Boston.
