Brent, Brent. I have run full tilt all my life. Been banged on the head, knocked down/got up, left for dead and lots of other "stuff". It was all in "the game"....but I was younger; bulletproof and would always wake up from whatever. I've lived long enough now to know different. To know docs make a difference and getting "bad", "weird" things checked is important.

How do those things work? I don't know. I do know this and I'll share an example;

In another thread I mentioned about getting a rhinovirus from mice that made me very sick. Got over it as I knew I would and continued on. Started having little pains in the chest; short breath; not feeling too good. I'm thinking I'm going to kick this and no worries; it didn't let up. My doc said see a cardiologist so I went. After tests he said there were anomalies and I needed tests including an angiogram and others. Bottom line? The virus, supposedly gone and no issue had settled in my heart and done significant damage to the front half of the entire organ - the pictures they had showing bloodflow were - scary, cut 60%.

All that to just give you some encouragement to see those docs. I used to live "for the family", in my mind, but in reality I pretty much did what made me happy. I almost lost my wife to cancer and the bell rang; I had to reevaluate. I've found that as my end comes closer, my worries about others gets greater. Knowing me that's pretty weird.

Take those blood tests. See that (those) doc(s). Many really bad things can be nipped in the bud if you find it early enough. BTDT and paid.

After nothing but a cup of black coffee this morning, Dr. Betty took my blood sugar. It was 111. She said normal is 80-100, so nothing to get alarmed about.
I think I was, and maybe still am, pretty dehydrated. I had some leg cramps last night which I think is an indicator. A bit surprising considering how much water I drank yesterday. Driving home I had trouble not wetting myself. Had to stop 3 or 4 times. Advantage of a crewcab truck...open 2 doors on one side and p away!
I made Betty's WalMart pickup this morning and stopped by a food truck for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and low level flirting with the cute lady owner. "Where you from?" Breaux Bridge. "Yeah my folks were Crowley, Lafayette....
Back to my normal. LOL

Just a "bit of trivia"...

Sports drinks like D-10 and Gator-Ade are essentially the same chemical makeup as urine and sweat... The old "salt pills" were "just sodium chloride" and as George said, didn't replace the potassium or other trace elements. Back when I went to basic training at Lackland, they put the "red flag" up (no outside activity) above 95F. Living in SW Mississippi and SE Louisiana, 95 was what we called, "Cool enough to start picking butterbeans"... Mamma used to feed us "lots of salt and bananas" I suppose that was the "original gator-ade snack"...

I use the Gatorade Zero, supposedly no added sugar. At work we evolved from salt tablets, to Squencher brand drinks and further to air conditioned tents placed around the plant with benches, water, and Squencher. I always assumed that bananas had a lot of potassium and we keep some around in the summer.
I know I have hydration issues and have treated the symptoms and not the cause. About a year ago I started having bad leg cramps, from I assumed dehydration. Rather than drink more water I drank bottled pickle juice. It will put a stop to cramps. It sounds bad as far as sodium but it's not as bad as I first assumed. From memory I think the smaller bottle has 600 mg? of sodium. I've been working on drinking more water and haven't had any pickle juice in a while.

John I too spent many summer hours picking butterbeans, field peas, and okra. Then that night the family would sit in the living room shelling beans and peas. Good family time.

Umm, 111 blood sugar with nothing to eat and frequent, urgent urination is a big sign of diabetes. When I had those symptoms when I was 40, I went to see the doc and found out I was type 2 diabetic. There's a simple blood test called the a1C that looks at the average blood sugar for the past 3 months. Get with your doc and get one ordered. That will tell the story if it's diabetes...

I think the frequent urination is the result of drinking a huge amount of water. But I will run it past a health professional.
Thanks.

There are several things that can give you the symptoms that you have described. I would urge you to talk to a doctor. A simple blood test can reveal issues that can be easily treated but may save your life.

I was one of those "stubborn" men who didn't like to go to the doctors and would "work thru" most any pain or ailment. In 2009 our youngest daughter was getting married in August. My lifelong friend was to DJ the reception. Less than a week before the date he came in from a run (he's been a marathon runner all his life) and had a backache and was sweating more than usual. He called 911 and turned out to be a massive heart attack. He lost 60% of the heart. Doctors told him if he waited another 10 mins he wouldn't have survived.

Two weeks later I was talking to him and told him how fatigue had me slowed down and how I was sweating a lot. He called my DW (she taught nursing in college) and told her to get me to a cardiologist. A few weeks later I had a stent implanted in the lower left descending artery a.k.a "the widow maker". It was 90% blocked but no damage.

June of this year I had a second stent on the right side. Fortunately no damage. Point is, when an event happens don't ignore and don't "guess" what happened. Find out.

I don't know about now but I had a pretty good heart work up by a cardiologist in 20?? in preparation for a back surgery. (Whenever that total eclipse of the sun was) Before that I had a routine visit with a cardiologist for the heck of it. He did a stress test and saw something, so they did the dye in the leg thing. Afterwards said I had a heart of an 18 year old. But I guess anything could change in a few years.

I had the "perfect" cardiac stress test to, until I didn't. When I had my angioplasty in 2009 they went through my groin. This year they went though my wrist and what a difference. Absolutely no pain. I got up 10 min after the procedure to go to the bathroom and was on my way home 2 hrs later.

Again, I'm no doctor but I'm just relaying my experiences. Dehydration can do exactly what happened to you, so can a bunch of other things. A doctor and perhaps a simple test can give you an answer. Certainly, no one can do that over the internet. It's your body, your choice.

Normal fasting blood sugar is 70-105. ANY reading over that on 3 separate lab results is a diagnostic indicator.. Frequent urination (whether drinking a lot of water or not) is a diagnostic indicator.

Leg cramps "can be" a sign of electrolyte imbalance (low potassium) which "can be" caused by kidney issues (possibly from damage to the kidneys from excess sugar in the blood) and the kidneys can't "save the potassium" causing the imbalance.

There is a test for "sugar history" that will tell your doctor more of the story, and probably unravel the mystery... It's the HGBA1C, and will give them the information needed to help protect your renal function, get diabetes (if present) under control and keep you walking on both legs, able to see and with no need for dialysis 3 times a week.....

You need to see a doctor and discuss all of these symptoms "factually and completely"...

Good news, glad you are feeling better.
My MIL was visiting for the winter and got stuck here because of the virus. The heat here is as bad as by you, if not worse. Mom spent too much time outside and thinks water is for washing and swimming so she got severely dehydrated and could not stand up or even move her legs when we tried to lift her. Off to Urgent Care. Of course they stick a swab up her nose and tell her bed rest and continue with her normal meds and wait 5 to 7 days for results. I have no medical training but in 70+ years have figured out that a 94 year old suffering from dehydration should not continue to take Lasix daily until back to normal. My prescription, chicken soup and lots of NON alcoholic beverages. She is now back to normal. ( well as normal as that side of the family can be)
The moral of this long story is, believe it or not you are no longer 18 and bullet proof, take plenty of breaks, plenty of water and most importantly CHICKEN SOUP. ,,,,,,,,,,,,, and MY mother said that I never paid attention to her. Stay well and remember you are no longer on the clock, it is okay to put things off till tomorrow. JM2¢, Hank
YES! I'm bored from staying home.
