Atwood He fridge not working on gas

Getting the camper ready for a trip to crested butte, checking all systems and found the fridge would not run on gas.

I switched it to gas, could hear it try to light 3 times and then the check light comes on.

Tried the water heater and it took a few tries but it finally came on, so I checked the stove and it also took a while... figured air in the gas lines after changing out the bottles so I cycle the fridge... a lot and still no joy.

Go out and take the cover off and notice the burner is actually lit, but the igniter keeps sparking, how does this thing determine the burner is lit?

There is noting around/near the burner, other than the igniter, which I have taken out and cleaned.

Any ideas?

Well, it looks like I can answer my own question.

I drug out the compressor and blew out the burner, the flame is much bigger now , the igniter tip is glowing red and the fridge is running on gas

I'll leave it running on gas and see how it goes.

As you found out, the sparker does double duty as the flame sensor.

And with a great sigh of relief I might add.

The thought of having to buy a new fridge was not too appealing.

Hopefully this will help someone else out down the road.

A recent Trailer Life magazine had an article on "Keeping Your Cool". It was about maintaining your RV refrigerator. One of the main points in the article was that "most RV owners seldom do preventative maintenance on their absorption refrigerator. TL said that "most owners skip over the periodic maintenance section of the owner's manual'... Whether they "skip over that section" or just don't do the work, most RV refrigerator "failures" that I see are from "rusty burner boxes, dirty flame sensors or cobwebs/blocked vent stacks or rusted/missing heat diffusers in the heat stack... All of those are "preventative maintenance related problems...

An hour a year spent "behind the refrigerator vent" can save $100-$1500 in 5 years.
