Fall Travel plans

Good day folks, I could use some advise from my fellow seasoned travers.. I would like to set out on a trip from Sugar Land Texas to Farmington New Mexico.. Stay a few months depending on the weather.. then from there on to Eureka California to stay with my daughter for the holidays. I have never ventured out of Texas with my 2008 F250 Super Duty and 27ft 5ver, most of my trips have been around 600 mile round trip from home. I am a long time Rver but it has been a very long time since I traveled long distances. I dont have a time frame to follow so that would not be a issue. I guess my biggest concern is the mountain driving.. Does anyone have a rout that has been traveled before that direction... ? or any other advise would be greatly appreciated. I dont plan on driving more than 3 to 4 hours a day.. I would like to leave around October.
Thanks!

If you haven't done so already, I find the Good Sam trip planner to work well for us. You can set filters to avoid things you don't like and schedule stops as needed. They show places to get fuel and points of interest. There are other travel apps but I have not found the need for any more than this one: https://www.goodsam.com/trip-planner/
If you time it right you could detour to Albuquerque for the balloon festival

Keep in mind that Farmington can get RV unfriendly in the winter IMO so watch the timing and the weather. Seems like we had a new member join recently that was from Farmington so maybe they will chime in with some suggestions.

It all depends on time of year & which roads you plan to take.
The interstate highways west from Flagstaff the mountains aren't difficult, some of the back highways could be different.

If you're not in a hurry you can use Hwy6 or Hwy36. When we used to go to Santa Fe, Chama, and Pagosa Springs, we used Hwy287. But we were on the east side of Houston. We raced some friends one time. We used 287, they used 36. We won by a lot. Google says the opposite.
I wouldn't go much later than October without being prepared for bad weather.

Go west on I-10 to Las Cruces then head north on I-25 to Albuquerque then on to Farmington.
Hacienda RV park in Las Cruces is very nice also Route 66 casino just west of Albuquerque is very nice.

We are from Farmington.
I agree that las cruces to Albuquerque then up 550 to Farmington if you are wanting to avoid the mountain passes.
Usually we don't get snow till mid November but it can get pretty cold at night.
Let us know if we can help with anything else.

RVLIFE, is that a photo of the guy and his followers who took over a little town in Oregon back in the 1980s? It is hard to tell but looks like it is a match.
