Keystone 2016 2400bhwe leaking

hey all,
I wanted to see if anyone else has ran across this issue.
We purchased a 2016 passport 2400bhwe model, and we love it!. we bought it in September 2015. On our second trip, after coming home, and parking it, we noticed the passenger compartment had some water in it, and, the drivers side passenger compartment, the wood panel on the roof of the compartment, the corner is super wet and mold was growing.

each time we've gone camping, it has been raining...gotta love western oregon!, and, this is when we noticed alot of moisture, however, when parked and not is use, was dry everywhere while it was raining. we were thinking somethings up with the trailer while the popout is extended.

we do have anot appointment with the dealer to check it out, but I wanted to see if you camping masters have come across, or if any owners of the same model had ran across this..

thanks!

When you are set up and leveled, check to see if the roof of the slide has a slight slope AWAY from the main body of the trailer. When level the slide roof should not be sloped towards the RV.

Secondly, there is a "flapper seal" at the top of the RV at the point where the slide is located. When you extend the slide, this flexible seal should "unfold" along its entire length. This seal now acts as a barrier to water sitting on the roof and flowing towards the RV. Sometimes, the seal becomes rigid and does not unfold properly allowing water to seep into the interior near the top of the slide. The seal may also not be positioned correctly and would have to be repositioned so that it can do its job of keeping water from finding its way into the unit.

There are some seals and molding along the exterior bottom edges which also may need to be recaulked.

x2 on checking the seal. I had that issue with my new 2014 after I bought it. Found the top seal over the slide did not pull out for the entire length of the slide. Had to take my extend a pole and run it down the length of the seal to pull it out like it should have been.

The advice given is good. But, know that water runs down so, finding the leak is likely above the wet area and frankly could be from many different areas or causes. With what you said I would not rule out that it has always been leaking since new sitting at the factory in their yard which is outside. With alittle luck the dealer will find the problem, fix it and inform you what was the cause. Let us know what happens.

our appointment is tomorrow, so, hopefully in a week or two, we'll have our answer.

I really appreciate all of your input, does help.
btw, I did check the upper seal, it was folding outward when the popout was extended. However, that doesn't mean I checked it correctly....haha.

One thing I noticed is if I open my slide with all the doors and vents closed the massive amount of air that is sucked into the trailer causes the seal not to flap out properly. Leaving the door open when I move the slide fixed my seal problems

Well,
Leak was found! Apparently, where the front of the trailer arcs into the roof, the sealant in the joint seperated. That's a little disheartening, as the trailer is only 3mo old. Either way, lesson learned however. I will be checking ALL joints at least once every 3mo from now on. Luckily, this time, the service guy said they are covering it since it's under 6mo old.

The lady and I thought it was something to do with the popout, I'm really glad we were wrong.. lol. An awning slide is getting installed at any rate though.. lol

So, hopefully, we can get back out and enjoy camping!! Haha

Should the slide angle away slightly? Mine doesn't leak, but seems to slope when level.

I'm pretty new to this pretty awesome hobby, infact, this is my first "new" camper....let alone popout knowledge. I'm under the impression that the popouts have a slight inward slope, however, I may be completely wrong on this. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will pipe in and set it straight.

It's not a hobby, it's a lifestyle and it is awesome!

Slide outs do have a slight outward slope, however it might not be noticeable. Your leak sounds like it was at the front cap seam. Normally all the seams on the roof are inspected prior to delivery. We techs are human and as such it may not have been noticed if it was small enough, I'm glad to hear it's fixed.

Our Passport leaked during a downpour. Front passthru was wet and it came into the master bedroom. Found out it came in from the passthru door, I had it closed but didn't turn the latch to the closed position. That by itself was enough of a gap to let water on when the rain coming down just right.

The top horizontal hinge of the storage compartments doors are known to leak. Mine did once, could not figure how water was getting in. Finally figured it out using a garden hose. I was still under warranty. I ran a very tiny bead caulk along where the hinge meets the door flange. Tiny horizontal gap. Never leaked again.

hmm, ok. when I get it back, I'll check that out. I had noticed however, with all the water that was in it, the door and the wall that housed the door were both dry. From my observations, the water is coming down from the roof somewhere, which is odd, because the dealer re-caulked and sealed everything the first time...but, it could be the door. I'll dbl check that when I get it back.

I wonder if there was residual water trapped somewhere and it found its way back through the same area?

The passthru door design isn't great imo. I was concerned about how ours "sealed" but assured they would not leak. Of course one did slightly, but a readjustment of the seal helped fix that. Not enough that water could get into the inside of the trailer though.

And typically when it did leak it was during heavy heavy rain or driving through a downpour that did it.

I will definitely look at that. the dealer still has the trailer which I think is a good thing??

this is my first new trailer, my previous was a 1970 Aloha 20ft that I rebuilt and restored before my wife and I got together. she wanted a larger one, so, that's where this Passport came in. Would kinda figure that as soon as I get a new one, it leaks...haha.

just a bump, still at the dealer's. I called and couldn't get any real update. just keeping this alive until I get an actual conclusion. so, going on 3 weeks now, and still don't have one.

has anyone else had any issues with one of these 2400's leaking this bad into the pass thru?

they have had it for 3 major rain storms during its stay at their lot. I do drive buy there everyday going home, and it is always outside...so, either they haven't touched it, or, they truly can't find the leak... :-(
