Replacing the speakers should make a difference. Since it's a subjective change (unless you go thru a LOT of testing with some expensive test equipment) the average person should hear a an increase in bass response as that is the weakest sound in an "inexpensive" speaker.

Replacing both with a "higher quality" level of equipment would make an even "larger" improvement.
